Oh, what a medieval setting, the view toward Opatija in teh night is unique, few excellent places to eat. POD LOZU, try carpacio there!
City with a small, partially walled historic center and thousand year old soul. Views from many of it's ramparts, towers and forts over the Kvarner bay to the south, or Gorski Kotar mountains to the north. Great climate, usually a few degrees cooler than Rijeka during the summers. Clean, tidy and well organized, you can enjoy wandering it's tight streets and narrow passageways then suddenly enjoy the magnificent, panoramic views over the surroundings. Many restaurants and caffes in and around the town.
Beautiful town above Rijeka. Gorgeous views wherever you look. Only down side...we had a storm roll in. Otherwise, on a clear day the views would have been even better (if that's possible)
We normally get to eat in one of a few nice restaurants in Kastav and normally have a qick walk round taking in the views and old buildings.
It's a small town near Rijeka, up in the hills. My friends took me there in the beginning of October when there is held a small festivity called "Bela nedeja". Through the whole city you can find a lot of stands with home specialities, and their local music is being played all the time. I've had a lot of fun, definitely you should visit it and feel the atmosphere. :)
A surprise on our holiday visit. A short taxi ride from Opatija (around 7km, taxis are cheap in Croatia - the trip cost around £7). We went for 2 nights. On the Friday we saw a Slovenian band called Fake Orchestra, producing blues/jazz influenced versions of traditional Slovenian folk songs. On Saturday night we saw a Macedonian blues band called Crossroads Blues Band (not a particularly inventive name) with a fabulous blues harp player who both looked and sang like Lemmy. Headline was the British band, King King. Good, 'modern' blues with a lively frontman (in a kilt) who really had the crowd going. Fabulous performances, a real holiday bonus.
Nice for walk, relax and sightseeing:) Old churches, houses, tiny streets, beautiful sea view and forest walk.
Kastav is a charming hilltop town with pretty much everything: Far fewer tourists than neighboring Opatija, great restaurants, spectacular views of Kvarner Bay and cooler air in the hot summer months.
A small hilltop town above Rijeka and the Opatija riviera. It is a must visit in case you do holidays in the Kvarner bay.. You can see the Crekvina (ruins of an old church, the city gate, old town houses, the church, some galleries...In case you are more active you can do a hike on the signed forrest path, between 5 - 15 km. After that I suggest a Pizza at the Loža restaurant.
Its crazy inhabitants! Especially the team working in Vidikovac restaurants, if you understand croatian, you are about to have some fun
The old town of Kastav is charming and beautiful, with several very good restaurants and a lovely boutique hotel. The view from the top is amazing, as you can see the whole Kvarner bay.
The old city of Kastav, situated on top of a hill, overlooks beautiful Kvarner! There are many little cafe bars and 4 tasty restaurants to visit: Loze, Vidikovac, Kukuriku and Pizzeria Rustica. Hiking trails in the woods, little shops, art gallery, cute houses, building ruins (remnance of an old city) and a church are other pleasant things to see and experience. Don't miss out on the wine festival during the fist Sunday in October! Summer concerts (e.g.Blues Festival) are a must see too in August. You won't be disappointed when visitig this little jewel!.
