Loved the Viking Boat (as I called it!!) It was snowing really heavily when we visited and was very, very slippy on the surface of the floor directly by the sculpture. A must for your photo album!!
The sculpture is close to the Harpa hall and well worth a short walk. Great photo opportunities from different angles. Must see.
The solfar sculpture is a beautiful art piece. It is worth stopping by a couple of times at different parts of the day as the clouds and sea can make dramatic backdrop for photos.
Although I saw this on a misty day, the effect was impressive. Beautifully made and a significant sculpture. I have just seen the photos taken by other contributors and am amazed at the distant scenery in the background. I shall return in better weather hopefully to see this in better conditions and take a better photo! Well worth a visit.
Went for a walk on my last day in Iceland to take some pictures at sunrise. This is a lovely sculpture to photograph. Worth a little walk to.
Very pretty sculpture of Viking kingship. That is all. You look at view and that's it. View over bay is stunning
You mustn't miss this delightful sculpture if you are in Reykjavik. I have visited 5 times at different times of year, in different seasons, lights and moods. Lovely to see at all times.
After seeing the pictures I knew I had to visit here when I came. Since there's snow on the ground you have to be careful since the ground around the sculpture is made of marble. So we got to work on our moon walking skills while we were at it ;)
be careful in the snow - its on shiny marble and you slip very easily. it is beautiful and ethereal in the snow
This modern artistic piece is situated on the seafront in Rekyavik. It's a super interpretation of a classic Viking longship, & it's perfectly placed to set sail into Rekyavik bay. There are no barriers, chains or restrictions & you are free to clamber over it.Enjoy
Walked along the front from our hotel in the icy conditions ans found this sculpture along the way, very nice piece, but be warned if the Chinese are about you will have to wait ages to take a photo. Lovely as the sun catches it .
I 'found' this lovely sculpture when walking about the city of Reykjavik, and was quite taken with its beauty. It is situated at water's edge, which spoke to me as though it was a ship ready to set sail. A work of art not to be missed during your trip to Reykjavik!
If your walking route around Reykjavic does not take you past the Sun Voyager, make a deliberate effort to walk out to see it. It is great location for photos in rain and shine, and will likely not have too many passersby at one time, allowing you have photos of it or yourself without anyone else in the frame. It is freestanding structure and you may touch it. There is no fee and there are no adjacent items of interest. As a work of art, it is a special piece in a special place. It is absolutely worth your time to get to it!
Beautifully ethereal see it in day and at nightCatches the feeling of the viking forbears. Sits on the coastal walkway, which can be quite blustery but not to be missed
Definitely worth a look. It was a couple of minutes down the road from the hostel I was staying at so I visited it nearly every day during my visit. I didn't wake up early enough to see what it would've looked like next to a sunrise, though. I can imagine it's beautiful.
