There are two lighthouses in Akranes. The older one built in 1918 is said to be one of the most beautiful lighthouses in the World. I agree. Definitely a must see when visiting Iceland. The newer and taller lighthouse built in 1943-1944, is amazing to get a panoramic view of all the places around Akranes. There are mountain everywhere, the ocean seems endless. A beautiful view in daytime when the sun plays a big role in making the view even more spectacular. Nighttima is also beautiful because of the stars and sometimes the northern lights(at wintertime). A breathtaking experience.
