This outdoor museum was like nothing I'd ever seen. The buildings with turf roofs were quite a sight. You can go inside, and see what a hard life the local fishermen must've had in the early days. Be sure to check the pictures on your camera, to see if you cut anything off. The beauty of the area was so entrancing, that I forgot to do that--I got home and wished I had better composition in several shots. But I was still happy with what I got! There is a very small gift shop. It must not have been too well stocked, because I didn't buy anything there.
I really enjoyed this outside museum. It is set a bit in the middle of nowhere and is just a small collection of wooden, turf roofed huts which people used to live in and fishing was their means of surviving! There is a very interesting guide dressed in the clothes the fishermen used to wear who gives a talk all about the fishing and living conditions. You then get to have a look round a couple of the houses. There is also a separate hut which was used for drying the fish plus a small souvenir "hut". It all looked very much the archetypal Icelandic place somehow and is quite different from anywhere else I have visited. I loved it!!
Osvor museum stands on the east side of Bolungarvik, down by the sea. The museum contains a small 19th century fishing base consisting of a salt hut, fish drying area and drying hut. This place gives you a good idea of the kind of ships and equipment that were used for fishing in that time. This is not a big museum but it is enough to give you a good idea about how people lived and survived under harsh conditions. It also tells you those must have been tough people to ever have survived out there 200 year ago. This place can be visited even tough it is not open. If it is not open then you can not go inside the huts, they will be closed but you can walk around and see everything else and try to have a sneak peak at the windows. If it is open then there is a fee but if closed then obviously there is not.You can get some good photos here of your self in surrounding that is long gone.
Das kleine Museum besteht aus 3 Fischerhütten in der Bucht. Es werden Fischfanggeräte u.a. Sachen aus den vorigen Jahrhunderten ausgestellt. Klein, aber trotzdem interessant !
