Close to Fisherman’s Bastion and the Royal Palace, the Hospital in the Rock is a little hidden away, but is an unusual but must-see attraction in the city. The tour consists of a 15 minute video about the history of the hospital, and then a 45 minute guided tour of the premises, where you get to see pretty much everything – from the wards, to the operating theatre, to the machinery rooms. It’s an incredible place bearing in mind it’s situation inside a hillside – and the presence of a full helicopter in one of the rooms is pretty amazing – and the fact that much of what is displayed is original means that it’s easy to imagine what life in the hospital during WW2 must have been like. Our guide knew his lines, but lacked a little personality.
A really interesting and factual visit. Having had a caretaker to look after the hospital until relatively recently it has not been disturbed. Well worth the time to seek out.
This was a really interesting place to visit and covered a lot of Hungary's history and the use of the caves and tunnels. We found the English group slightly too large especially for the small tunnels and rooms. There are a range of discounts for visitors including for those with the Budapest card and those under 26 years old.
Following previous reviews we found ourselves at the non impressing entrance of Hospital in the Rock. Crossing into the museum we had an extremely interesting and adventurous guided tour that took us through some of last decade's horrible history of Budapest which is embedded in the history of the hospital.
We just a a short time at this attraction but were impressed at what we saw and if we return to Budapest would like to spend longer exploring.
We have been there in July of 2013.. I think we were so fortunate to take the last tour.. If I've lost the chance of seeing this I would be so frustrated.. The tour is well organized with guides who speak a very fluent English with joy and ambition to serve.. The historical background was mesmerising.. They are explaining every detail of the facility and even let you try a few of the equipment.. It's a bit cold underneath the ground but there are coats in case you don't have anything to keep you warm but they are a bit old and don't seem very clean(they are serving thousands of people every day, what else can you expect) but it's totally worth your hour.. I am a doctor of dentistry and I am super excited and satisfied with the tour and details.. It's better than the art museum in the castle imo.. In arts museum even the attendants were not able to speak English other than "no, yes, okay"

Caves turned into a hospital? Secret bunkers under the old Castle district? In this well-written tour, guides walk you through the vast underground facility and its history. Aaron was a good guide, displays were clear and interesting, and there was a good introductory video. Gift shop is unremarkable.
We enjoyed this little museum, you are taken round by a guide and the tour took about an hour.Very informative.
Quirky and really interesting alternative venue. We went for the ten o clock opening and were two of four on a tour...when we came out it was busy. Good move. Dupree guide who brought the history alive. I bought a genuine unused anti nuclear mask...1500 f equivalent of four pounds fifty. Brilliant

We loved our trip to visit hospital in the rock. The guide was fantastic and it was a truly unique experience.
Interesting little place. Glad we paid the small entrance fee. You are allowed to take photos inside.
I found the hospital in the rock really interesting. Loved the fact that they had all the original hospital paraphernalia. Most of the dummy figures look terrible, not that it's a complaint though, they just don't really add much to it. Worth a visit as it's such a unique place.
