You can easily get to the forest train stop by taking the number 1 tram from the city centre and then off you go onto an adventure into the depths of the forest and top of the hills on the forest train.We took the train to go to Lillafured, however there are a number of other stops as well after Lillafured and you can just buy a return ticket or one way ticket and go all the way to the last stop.The train ride took about 20-30 minutes and it takes you through the most breathtaking parts of the forest. We got on the train as the ticket office was closed and we have been reassured that we can buy our tickets on the train. This caused no problems, we got our tickets just before we got to Lillafured.The train has a number of open carriages which was definitely worth trying out during the summer, however it has also got closed carriages. I really enjoyed the travel through the tunnels, complete darkness and then the sun rays shine in and you can see the beauty of the forest again.It's a must do and tickets only cost 700 Fts.

The train journey is a charming one through the forest, all the way to Lillafured. We boarded at the starting point: the LAEV tram stop, and spent a good 30 mins before getting off to explore the waterfalls and grounds surrounding the Palota Hotel.Really cheap, quaint, and frankly easier than the 35 bus.Worthwhile experience!

Issue 1: the staff do not speak English, nor are any of the signs in English - bring a Hungarian-speaking friend of a phrase book, otherwise you may end up with the wrong kind of ticket.Issue 2: as the train goes through the forest it can be cold, especially considering the fact that it's an open carriage. Bring a jacket!Otherwise the trip is scenic, pleasant and provides an experience different to that of sitting on the car or in a bus. It does take a good hour to go from one end to the other, but you get a lot of chances to take photos that way! The hotel and the grounds of Lillafured are pretty, too, worth an hour or two of your time.

Very funny ride in the middle of the forest in a classic small train, for a small price. it's worth the visit speciall if you're travelling with your family

My kids love the forest railway and we usually travel twice a year. One time in summer and also for the winter season. The view is terrific and the open cars offer a nice atmosphere.

So much fun! Recommend it to everyone. The kids love it! It comes from Diosgyor to Lillafured. Worth the time and money!

Fresh air and beautiful surroundings to walk. The old tourist train trip can be done in the upper reaches of the lake. There's trout farm and restaurant.

You find its schedule on the internet, departures every 75 minutes. It stops at some fancy locations, definitely makes sense to ride.

Must try , can see places where only walking truck can take you ..every half hour is the train coming. Must take time fr the lcal pistrang farm and try the fish restaurant

By exception we visited my inlaws in December for xmas - normally it'll be summer time. Our daughter then rides the train with grandparents as well as us. Also to get to the troutfarm for lunch in summer time we use it . In summer view is nice green.In wintertime there is typically more snow around - and the wagons are nicely heated with stove burning wood. Landscape is more serene - and with the various places to get out and start a walk it's a great way to get into the Bukk forest area - also in wintertime

The valleys, short tunnels, the beautiful nature surrounding us ...very impessive ! A hidden gem...The best period to visit is the spring and the autumn. Although you can have real Christmas feelings in December there are some "Santa Claus" rides for the young, and young in soul..

Notre avis (moyen) vient du fait que fin septembre tout était pratiquement fermé à la gare terminus, Nous avons donc fait un aller retour sans plus. Ceci dit, le petit train tressautant sur les rails nous a tout de même bien fait rire et un peu fait peur aussi !
