this place is simply amazing. walking there through the old town up to the castle and seeing the amazing view is worth the effort. didnt have a chance to take a tour or go in to the 3D movie but I'm assuming it's good as well.

You can do a self-guided tour of this place. History, nice views, great walking spots. There is a guided tour portion of the caves, but only at certain hours. I recommend calling ahead for specific times if you want to go to the caves. Great visit, lots of history.

Worth to watch the 3D cinema, which shows well the town and castle's original look. The walls are under reconstruction right now (2015 January), but most of the place is open for visit, and most of it is for free.

This castle reveals a well detailed part of Hungary's Medieval era history and fights against the turkish. There are at least 20 cannons which are exotic and noteworthy. There is a smaller museum inside divided in separate rooms which offer a more profound look on their weapons and dresses, however there is an additional fee for entering the museum. On the outside you can enjoy a gorgeous panoramic view on the town as well.

A short walk from the city center and you reach the castle. At this time of the year we did not have to pay entrance fee to visit the grounds.A tour inside the castle and the underground passages costs money but worth all of it.A big part of the castle and the walls was under reconstruction .Still, you can imagine the grandeur of the castle since it was build in the late of the first millennium.Since then it had an important role in the history of all the nations and people who lived in this region. The whole compound is of medium if not small dimensions but still has its historical flavor .The bastion hols periodical exhibitions which are included in the price (April till October) The tour inside the bastion and the underground passages was in the first place interesting and informative. The young lady guide was well updated with the facts and her explanations were clear and even amusing ,according to the circumstances. There are more interesting things to see like the cathedral ruins, art galleries, dungeon exhibition, the gothic bishop palace and more. One of the interesting tombs here is the one of Gardonyi Geza the famous author of the novel "the egri stars" a novel which is about the castle and events from the good old times.A very smart and philosophical inscription is on the cross above the grave which translates: "ONLY the BODY" !! Quite impressive ,I should say. After the tour and after the museum is the time to enjoy finally the view:the whole Eger city is before your eyes.In a moment you will find the Turkish minaret and the city center. We arrived by car and parked it not far from the center. The castle is a walking distance.

It's good to get there to see the overall view at the city and surrounding landscape. Other than that don't expect magnificent castle or great historical sites. It's only old walls.

We had a great time during the Medieval Festival this past summer. Great views and there was a real air of excitement. It was so much fun.

You get a wonderful view of more than just the city from the summit. The castle is currently undergoing pointing of the stonework so is a bit upset at present. However, the workers are keeping the walkways clear for ease of movement.

There are a handful of exhibits to check out in the castle. But I went up there for the view of the city. It is an interesting place and quite a conversation piece if you're with someone who's interested in medieval history and warfare. But beyond that, I'm not sure if it's worth a second visit.

A stay in hungarian baroque town Eger (NE of country) is unthinkable without leaving visit the legendary castle, which towers above the city. Fortifications that withstood the Turkish superiority offers a panoramic view of the picturesque town (novel - by G. Gárdonyi and film: Eger stars). Later it was conquered by the Turks while, which witnessed the northernmost minaret in Hungary. The remains of the castle cathedral, casemates, fortifications and waxworks are grateful aim for travelers. Moreover the secondd lagest cathedral in Hungary, bishop´s palace, famous swimming pool and even familiar red wine - bikavér make this place one of the most attractive tourist destinations in Hungary.

I love to visit castles on top of hills. This one is very easy to walk up the hill to (no steps just a gentle slope. While many of the attractions were closed, it was fun to walk around the parapets and view the delightful town of Eger below.

There is not a lot to do in Eger, so a visit to the castle is worth doing. But except for the good views from the castle's walls, there not much there.

This is a historic castle. The guided tour (with special effects) was included in our visit. The guide said she mainly guided German speaking tourists, but her English was more than adequate. The tour was very, very worthwhile. Without it one wouldn't have got a full sense of the castle's history. The whole scene was very alive when we were there as it was a festival weekend. A parade around town later in the evening added to the whole sense of history. A very nice town to visit and the castle is a "must do."

The castle complex is quite large. The signs and information in English were limited, but where there was information, it was very interesting. Views over the town are spectacular.
