We visited the Terrace Houses as part of our visit to Ephesus and chose to see the Terrace Houses, thinking they would be worth seeing as the ticket is extra for this. When we visited we see the archeologists trying to piece together the ruins and trying to put together the mosaic on the walls and floors of the ancient houses. The restoration efforts are extremely commendable with glass floors which both preserve the ruins and let visitors see them clearly. It is also quite interesting to see the advanced technology of the houses which used underground heating pipes.I would recommend all to see these terrace houses during the visit to Ephesus. The extra ticket is well worth the price.

This is a more recently discovered area that contains a massive, newly-excavated series of 6 hillside houses that were originally constructed by the very wealthy. The infrastructure that was incorporated in the building designs was most impressive, considering how long ago these were believed to be developed. The current tourist infrastructure that has been installed to allow visitors to experience the area is also truly impressive. One can easily appreciate this tourist-oriented infrastructure, because it allows visitors the opportunity to view the area, without damaging the sensitive structures. Visitors follow a designated metal and safety glass pathway up various flights of stairs that provide birds-eye and profile views of the noteworthy constructs within. Some of aesthetic elements of design are jaw-dropping!

this place takes my breath away and gives me goosebumps each time I visit it. I've been here more than 4 times in 4 different years and each time I get there there is something new..

Can see actual excavation and restoration in process as well as see the actual rooms of homes occupied thousands of years ago.

Although it has an additional fee, it is a great sight to visit. Especially wall paintings are great.

Well worth the extra fee to visit, and very quiet. These ruins are exceptional in Europe for the quality of their preservation, the painstaking restoration that is being done, and the insight into the beauty and style of the wealthiest ancient citizens. Wonderful mosaics, frescoes and marble decoration. Excellent.

For just a few more dollars you can walk through some of the best preserved ruins from early Ephesus. The frescos and tile work are stunning. The elaborate planning erases any thought that early builders were undeveloped in their thinking or artistic/engineering abilities.

The extra price cuts out those that are not interested. Can be tough to fully appreciate without a guide (person or book). One of the Highlights of the Tour.

This is by far the highlight of the trip. An archiological excavation in process. To preserve this precious discovery the Austrian government donated a covered building with walkways to ensure tourists did not cause damage. One literally walks above the ruins some of which have been impecibly restored and others still in the process. It is difficult to accept this level of sophistication and civilization so long ago. Simply magnificent!

The terrace houses were under repair and not open during our visit. That is all there is to say about it.

In our modern world, one cannot imagine living in houses like the Terrace Houses, but personally I would have loved to experience it. You get a feel of how it would have been when walking through them. A cold yet captivating feeling. Have to experience it to understand my perspective.

Well preserved, the walking paths allow you to see everything, and it's in the shade! Plus the ruins are spectacular!

Many by pass the Terrace Houses and they do not know what they have missed. The Terrace Houses give Ephesus a true understanding of life as it was in that bygone era. These houses had plumbing, running water and bathrooms! The decorative details are incredible adding to that touch of class and appreciation of the arts. Pay the extra fee and enjoy this well preserved and covered (nice reprieve from the sun if its summer time!) set of ancient homes.

Amazingly preserved and restored Roman houses. Well worth the extra admission! Added bonus- since most of the larger tours skip the houses, there is far less of a crowd!
