If you are staying in Canakkale, you may wish to check out the nearby island of Bozcaada, formerly Tenedos. You can catch a mini-bus from the town of Canakkale for approximately one hour, followed by a ferry across to the island. The return bus trip is about $10 and the return ferry trip is another $6. Although the island has a permanent population of only 2-3000, the number expands considerably in the summer. There are plenty of places to wine and dine on the island. They have lots of interesting shops and stalls, beaches and good sunsets. It has a great atmosphere and is a nice place to spend a relaxing few days.

bozcaada, tenedos, is the great place to escape and enjoy the natural part of life. It is the 3rd largest island in Turkey.. Even if its too small, offers you more than expect. my main attraction about the island is his people and natural and simple life. It takes nearly 6hours by car from istanbul. there is a ferry from Geyikli to land the island which takes 30minutes. during summer, its so busy to get the ferry. Bozcaada is not like greek island, it has its own personality. It has a beautiful and clean sea, unspoiled coves, and lovely beaches. While the coves are all different from each other, most of them are appropriate for swimming. One of the island's most popular beaches is Ayazma, famous for its golden sand and crystal clear turquoise sea. Bozcaada's sea is generally cold as it is located in the Northern Aegean sea. But from time to time you can experience a very mild sea temperature. the beaches have no entrance fees, you only pay for chair and umbrella. Dont miss to experience Vahit'in yeri, located at Ayazma. It serves delicious snacks and appetizers..the staff are so friendly and easygoing like all Bozcada people.

This is an amazing small island in Aegean sea. We spent a whole day in September 2013 there. It is a pleasure to have a walk in the small city full of nice galleries, coffee shops, fruits and souvenirs' market. Very coloruful and peacuful place. Ten minutes away is the amazing beach - white sands and turquoise water. You can either rent a car or take the reqular island minibuses to take you to the beach. The island is also known for its delicious wine.

İf you live in İstanbul it is very great to go Bozcaada for a weekend away. You can go there on a bus or on your own car or motocycle. It takes around 5 hours or little more.

If you want to escape from city life, Bozcadada is the best choice. really has great beaches and sea to swim. Wines are reaaly good and have a nice sunset view. The only negative is there are too much feey queue on the island on Sundays.

Bozcaada consists of a small "town" and several beaches. "In town" there are constant traffic jams of cars that want to get to the ferry. The streets are full of restaurants. Prices are high, the quality of the food is average, and portions are small. It is obvious that the restaurants have only three months per year to make money, and that they don't have to try hard because in summer there are just so many tourists. The most famous beach (Ayazma) is a nightmare - absolutely overcrowded and dirty. The famous sunset near the windfarm attracts hundreds of people pickniing, driving back and forth in SUV's etc. - not very romantic in my opinion. There are some less crowded beaches, and it is still possible to have a decent holiday on the island. It may have been paradise 10 years ago, but now Bozcaada is just another place spoilt by to many tourists.

A wonderful, wonderful island. The trip from the centre of Çanakkale was easy, despite being carless at the time. A dolmuş (mini-bus) for a trifling fee goes to Geyikli and thence one can catch the ferry to Bozcaada. The reverse journey is equally easy, should one be based in Çanakkale as we were. The marina is surrounded by cafés, bars and restaurants where one can contemplate locals fishing, mostly by line, but the boats tend to look serious about fishing too, rather than fancy. The local jams, especially the tomato jam (a new one for us) is to be recommended. Bozcaada Doğa Domates Reçeli was the brand that graced breakfast this morning. I have no doubt other brands are worth tasting as well. Do not forget to stock up on local wine, the local grape varieties are both very reasonably priced and excellent value. Mussels, stuffed with rice make a delicious snack and local handicrafts are worth hunting for. 'A Turkish Gem' was another reviewer's review title and we agree!

This little island is surrounded by the Marmara Sea and is covered with vineyards and olive trees. We drove around the island and never lost site of the sea. It is quiet, clean, and quite untouched by tourism. The seafood is delicious.

This little Island is just off the coast of Canakkale and can be reached by boat from Geyikili. There are crysal waters surrounding the Island and on the Island you can do everything from bike riding, to camping, to luxery beach holiday. The Island is also known for its wineries. The wines are cheap in the stores and a pleasure to try. This was my favourite spot I visited on the west coast of Turkey. A must do! Bertiz Hotel is by far the best on the Island if you have a higher than average budget.

The Father of History, Herodotus: "God has created Bozcaada (Tenedos) so that people live long..."Totally agree with him :) Good wine, good weather, good food, good prices, kind local people and so on... Only negative thing from my side was cold sea :) TIP: Do not forget to watch the sunset by Polente Lighthouse and take a bottle of local wine with you.

Love the authenticity not like the new regulations over wine testing and festivals. I believe that it will spoil the island.. Beautiful beaches. Very clean. Nice residents

Bozcaada was one of my favorite parts of the trip. Hard to get to, not a lot of attractions, and hardly anyone speaks English, yet we absolutely loved it! Has an old world feel, moves at a slower pace and has small town charm. Beautiful sites, cool castle, awesome beaches and wonderful people!

It is still peacefull island with grapes,wine,cookies with almond,tomato jam...there are no buildings in most of the land in island.the sea is quite clean,but cold mostly which is usual in north aegean in turkey coast.

Bozcaada is my fav holiday destination. Even though it had been always calm in my previous visits, that time was 3 days public holiday in Turkey. That's why it was much more crowded than always. Best time for Bozcaada to visit is September I would say. Btw fyi sea is extreme cold in there =)
