There are mixed reviews of the lake and I think they are mainly due to wrong expectations.I arrived at Larnaka airport and decided to walk from the airport to the lake. It took maybe 30 minutes to walk by the road and then there was the lake. At that point of the year it is full of water and I could see a lot of Flamingos.I also liked the reflections of the palm trees and the mosque in the water with the Flamingos in front. A beautiful sight and I cannot understand how people could be disappointed because of that.Yes, the mosque cannot be compared to the many beautiful mosques of Abu Dhabi or Istanbul or the one I have seen in Kazan. It is a very small mosque but the building is definitely not ugly. Sometimes the charm of a place has nothing to with size. There is also enough opportunities to walk around away from the street if you actually wanted. Overall it is a nice get away opportunity for some hours and there is definitely more to it than meets the eye in the first moments.
One may spot flamingoes during winter. These birds added color to the lake. Beautiful scenery however it lacks signage and it has to be properly taken care of by the local council. A walk from makenzi bus stop was such a long one. Transporting was such a hassle so be prepared for a loooooooong wait before a bus stops to pick you. Surrounding... Tekke is nice from a far to take photos.
Is a lake close to the airport so the view is not nice and it has a mosque, that I could say is the ugliest I ever seen
Excellent place for relaxing view of the saltlake! Nice flamingos and hens in the saltlake!Taking photos (it is offered for wedding photos)! Also the place is offered for exciting cycling!
Summer Vs Winter this place is one of the best around but better take a car or a byke. I have seen many tourists that walk there but dont forget the Cyprus sun. Is a lovely place but take with you water, and drinks since nothing near it...
beautiful scenery to bird watch! and photograph the landscape around.you will find lots of wild life around (100's of cats as well!) its a most see if and its free!beautiful on a clear day, in the summer its a salt flat in the winter months its a huge lake with greenery!
We spent a whole day walking around this impressive lake and it was the best day from our week in Larnaca. I am happy that I came here in January because we had amazing change to see flamingoes. The nature around the lake was very interesting and different too. If you love long walkings you must walk around this lake especially in winter when weather is warm but not very hot.
Went down here on the bus from Larnaca. not clear how to walk around and there is a busy road nearby. We did see Flamingoes but only at a distance so you need binoculars really. Not very peaceful right by the road but I am sure if you get off the main drag it is very pleasant. You need to know where to walk and what you are looking at really.
The site is famous in the winter for the flamingo birds that migrate here. Being that as it might be, without some serious bird watching equipment.... you cannot see much. There are no areas with binoculars to watch the middle of the lake, there's basically... nothing to see. Kind of a disappointed I have to say.
When you come to Lárnaka in the winter, don't miss the Salt Lake with the light pink flamingos and a peaceful walk.
No flamingo in December, apparently Feb to April is the best time to catch them. There were a few birds on the lake but too far away to see which. I was not blown away. If you're passing and fancy a walk then there are worst places you could go.
A salt lake with some flamingoes, quite nice, but not hugely impressive. It is worth a look if you are in the area, mostly likely on the drive back to the airport, but it is not somewhere I would purposely seek as a destination. There are a few parking areas, not a lot to do, and the salt lake looked a bit grey and grubby when we visited - it was March and there wasn't much water. Many people, however, were there in order to visit Hala Sultan Tekke.
Worth a drive by or quick stop if your in the area. Large expanse of salt lake with some flamingos in residence quite close to the shore. A couple of parking place es around the lake, free of charge.
Beautiful place, even in bad weather. Especially flamingos, which gives a pink color. Beautiful scenery.
The Larnaca Salt Lake is located a few km away from the Airport and is a place that is getting dry during the summer months, but it's getting (almost) full with water and with flamingoes during the winter months.
