Kourion is one of the most impressive sites in Cyprus. The 2nd century AD Greek/Roman theatre has been restored and is now the venue for musical and theatrical performances. The views are fantastic. There are also some amazing mosaics. Kourion was an important city and the site has many monuments and villas from the Roman period. The mosaic floors show the wealth of the owners of the villas. You can wander the site and see the Forum, the Public Baths, the Fountain House ,the House of the Gladiators, the house of Achilles and the Nymphaeum .Winter opening hours in March are 08.00-17.00 then change to 8.00-18.00 in April and May then in June- August it's 8.00-19.30.This is a must see site when visiting Cyprus .
We first visited many years ago and it is far more extensive than I remember. The amphitheatre has been restored but not sympathetically in my view. As you stand looking up there is a wooden hut and metal poles for flood lights etcetera. It truly detracts from something that is awe inspiring. The site is well worth visiting the preserved mosaics are well presented. The signage is good and there are raised boardwalks etcetera. Once you do leave there is a short drive down to Kourian Bay where you can buy lunch drinks etc at a reasonable cost. We visited in March 2015, the displayed price is €4.5 but you ask you get a concessionary ticket for € 2.25 if you are over60/65
If you like history is good to see this attraction. Low fees and easy to get there. This attraction gives you the chance to see below, to a beautiful view.
History and views are really breathtaking. Worth every cent. The exercise is great. The feeling you have while there is wonderful. I hope to return to Cyprus one day again!
Very interesting, but a bit windy as its on the top of a hill. Great amphitheatre with spectacular view.
My wife and I are not enthusiasts of site seeing , but with rain forecast for the whole day we asked our hotel for places to visit as we had a hire car . This place is a must see . The Ampitheatre is stunning . You must go down to the stage and stand next to the mark on the ground , speak loudly as if addressing an audience and it is like a microphone echoing back at you , those clever Romans had surround sound way back then . A great experience . The rest of it is also amazing .
This is the most interesting antique history place in south Cyprus. It was freezing cold when we were there but we took the time to see the remains of ancient societis and imagine their life there. We found it very interesting and well arranged for public touring. Great views around.
great for kite surfing, very beautiful in winter and spring while green. and great ruins with breathtaking view
If you enjoy archaelogical sites this is a must with beautifully preserved mosaic floors and a huge amphitheatre overlooking the sea.
This restaurant has one of the most amazing outside sitting in Limassol area. Food is not bad at all (a bit overpriced), service is fast and the beach is right in front of your feet
The best site for ancient ruins in Cyprus. The ampitheater is nice and if you are lucky you can catch a show. Views are amazing. Well preserved mosaics (under cover). Come in the morning and then hit Curium beach afterward to cool off (If you visit in the summer).
every time I visit I am amazed. It feels like the first time. If you are lucky you will get a performance at the ancient theatre.
Fantastic ancient site . It is relatively small site but rather well preserved. it has also fantastic view ! If you go on summer do go and see a play on the ancient theater. It is such an experience ! Also combine the visit with the fantastic beach near by.
Excellent historical place to visit.A well designed amphitheater ny ancient greeks and great if one has the opprtunity to view a musical or a theatrical performancs.Accoustics are great and view of Acrotiry bay.Visit cto website for more info.
This is by far the best antiquity site in the area around Limassol Cyprus. The site is very accessible just off a good paved road. The mosaics are especially good. Overall the site is very well presented and organized.
