Some of the icons in the Church are very old and beautiful. Do take a look. Remember to show respect though; no hangs behind your back! :-)
Nice to visit shortly if in the area. It could be part of a walking tour of old Nicosia. It is very nice insight even though this may not seem so from the outside.
Lots of details make this church and ideal wedding venue; the location, the availability of a parking for the guests, the beautifully crafted handmade golden temple, the way guests can seat around the couple and watch I obstructed, the priest who is very modern and polite, the asking price of 100 euros for the wedding service when all other churches in Nicosia ask from 250 up to 500 euros...in A Cypriot wedding only the best man pays for the church...even if there is a best woman...( they call it that way). Very peaceful, beautiful Byzantine icons, it's allowed to photograph them...in some churches it is forbidden.
When touring down-town Nicosia, you must go visit this beautiful church, which is located on a road parallel to Onasagorou and Ledras street. Especially during Holy week (preferable Good Friday) it is must-see location. Please note that just like any other churches on the island, apparel should be decent.
I attended a wedding there recently and the church is wonderful. The chairs as placed on raised floor so have a perfect view wherever you sit. The priest was very nice as well and overall its a wonderful place for a traditional wedding.
Wonderful architecture and history. A rare chance to see and read about the history of the church and what it used to be in another life.
The church of Archangelos Michail Trypiotis, a three - aisle Franco - Bysantine basilica, is located within the Walled City, in the south part of Lefkosia, in a quarter which had been rich and important before the division of the city. The church was built in 1695 and the beautiful wooden carved iconostasis dates back to 1812. Constructed with clearly cut stones, the church has distinguished internal features and very important icons. Most impressive is the big icon of Archangelos Michail, protector of the city from flooding by the Pedieos river, dated 1634. Exceptional is the 15th century small rectangular icon of Mary with baby Jesus in her arms, between her parents Joachim and Anna. This is the most ancient icon in the church. Very interesting are the two doors on the southern and western external walls, since they follow different architectural styles, such as romanesque, gothic and renaissance. You may visit the church early in the morning or afternoon at about 5 o´clock and certainly every Sunday morning before 10 to attend the orthodox divine liturgy. The best season to visit Trypiotis and the other 10 churches, orthodox and catholic, of the south part of the Lefkosia Walled City, is Easter time, especially on Good Friday.
Church of Archangel Michael Trypiotis is a stone-built church of 16th century, during Venetian period at Cyprus. Located within the walls of Nicosia, just in the historic centre of the town, very easy to find and of great interest. Worth while to visit and for those who love these kind of small old churches like me, at the same area is Ayios Savvas, Panayia Chrysaliniotissa, Ayios Kassianos and Panayia Phaneromeni, as Cypriots are very faithfull.
Chiara Sinopoli
