If you hate crowds of tourist and want to enjoy a relaxing landscape this is the place to go. The Franzesburg castle is situated in the middle of an artificial lake. It is so beautiful... I'd go there again next time I have the chance to go to Vienna.
The place is absolutely amazing! Easy to visit if you are staying in Vienna.Boat trip is a must do if you visit this place during the summer.
This was by far one of the best parks I have ever been to. More like a very clean and tidy forest than a park Schlosspark Laxenburg has something o offer for anyone from couples looking for a romantic picnic place, families looking for a good time outside, people looking for a breath of fresh air and quiet, young people looking for adventure and so on. If you want to see the castle but it seems to be a little bit to far from the entrance for you take the train ride, it cost only around 3 euro for a round trip and it is worth every penny.
Went for a castle tour and saw a remarkable walking trail. Several kilometers long, across a lake/pond. Many old trees, very quiet except the odd aeroplane overhead. Small boats to rent.Snack bar. Tour of the castle. The Castle tour is very interesting. The interior is larger than it appears from the outside. It is far more interesting than it first appears. Language broadcasters available for several languages. From Vienna take subway line U1 to Sudtiroler Platz-Hauptbahnhot station. Bus station is at exit door. Take bus 566 (2.2 euros) easy 30 minute drive to Laxenburg. Short walk within town to park. Entrance fee 6 euros and castle tour 9 euros. Saw a red squirel and a deer while walking.Very nice.
This is really a beautifully place. Great to spend all day long. There is a huge green space where you can run, or simply rest, since there are lots of benches all over the place, some of them near the beautiful lake. There is a big great lake, where you can rent a boat and go for a great ride along the lake. You can also visit the castle, you can pay just 0.5 euros to go to the castle using a small ferry boat or you can go walking all around, until you get behind the castle, then just use the bridge to enter the castle. This is a great place to spend the day with the family or for a romantic day out. It's 45 minutes from vienna. The bus is the 566 that costs 2.20euros each way. Enjoy
We were staying in Vienna for few days and we decided to visit the Park and walk around in the hot weather. It was a very good decision as the place is quite close to the city (still you need a car to go there). There are a lot of trees so we didn't felt he sun too much. We also used the electric boats to make a lake walk. We took 1h and the boat for 15 EUR - it is ok for 4 aduls and there is an option to open a sun protector.Entrance fee was quite low (I think it was 2 or 3 EUR)
Relaxing picnic in the castle gardens, rent a boat or just enjoy a romantic walk in the park. Do not miss out on the Franzesburg. You can see a collection of medieval art and weapons. The entrance fee is 9€ pp and the tour lasts 45 min. Do not forget a jacket, because it is chilly inside.
Schlosspark Laxenburg is 23 km south of Vienna, so only takes about a half hour to get there by car. I agree that it's more "park" than "castle," which was perfect for us because were were there on a beautiful day with a 4-year-old and a 1-year-old. It costs 2 euros for adults to get into the castle grounds and young kids are free. The grounds are huge and most of the paths are paved. There's a small lake, boat rentals (April-November), a playground, a couple of places to eat, as well as a few W.C. spread throughout the park. We didn't go in the castle, but you can walk right up to it during the off season. There's a parking lot next to the entrance off of Schlossplatz street. I imagine the lot fills up quickly during the summer because people were trolling for spots when we left around 1pm. The park is perfect for people looking for a nice, easy half-day trip from Vienna. That said, if you have have a few days in Vienna, I probably would NOT recommend taking the time to visit the park simply because there's so much to see in Vienna.
i think if you go with kids no better choise. Fairly small castle and big castles (yes, you can find more castles in the park), very nice park with big places, lakes and streams. You need pay for entry, but only 1,8 Euro for adults. If you want to go with ferryboat to Castle Laxenburg you need pay more 0,5 Euro. One of the most beautiful places we've beenm highly recommended, very romatic.
very nice park with castle & lake in the middle, you can rent various types of boats and just relax.

Schlosspark Laxenburg is a lovely park just south of Vienna in the luxuriant surrounds of a former Habsburg summer palace. The drive is less than half an hour from Vienna. It is a very popular trip for locals. Entry fee is €1.80.The centrepiece of the Schlosspark is Franzensburg which looks lovely in the tourist shots but is actually not all that impressive from closer-in. The Franzensburg includes hourly tours of two different types. The most popular part of the Franzensburg seems to be the restaurant by the lake. It is a very nice setting lakeside but on busy days the restaurant is overly full so a picnic the other side of the burg is a better option. As well as the Franzensburg the area includes the Altes Schloss which is just a large house and the Blaue Hof which makes up the impressive main entrance area with its brilliant white stone bulidings and imposing sense of splendour. Inside the grounds the Concordia Temple is worth finding for its innate artistic patterning around and on the underside of the small dome.Really though Schlosspark Laxenburg is a park more than it is a castle experience. It is a lovely park, big grounds with plenty of different options for different types of people. The large children's playground attracts all passing young families and has an excellent range of apparatus to play on for kinds from around 2 to perhaps 8-10, The toilet by the children's playground is horrible. Others may like to take a pedalo or rowing boat and find their way around the Schlossteich.Best of all really is to walk The grounds are extensive and have a range of interesting things to see including a man-made waterfall, some nice watery areas, an old tournament ground, and lots of wooded environs. It is a relaxing and calming place, once a favourite place for Habsburgs to ride around. The grounds include a network of stone paths so they are fully accessible for buggies or wheelchairs. Dogs are welcome but have their own entrance fee.Parking is ok. There are allegedly 1000 parking places. The main entrance fills up pretty sharpish but parking area 2 is actually nicer anyway. By afternoon on a peak day though it ca be a tight squeeze trying to find somewhere.Laxenburg might not have the very best grounds in Austria but they are certainly very nice and well worth the very small entrance fee for a relaxing and enjoyable bit of greenery.
Beautiful time to spend the afternoon. Take a walk in historic Schlosspark which is less than 1/2 hours from Vienna. The small entrance fee (less than 2 Euro) is well worth it. Once inside you can choose between longer route, about 7km, or shorter ones if you prefer. No bikes allowed. Ring the bell and call your ferry which take you to a small island with a romantic castle where you can enjoy a nice meal. Oldest building on the property dates back to the 14th century, so a lot to see. Don't miss the ice cream parlour "Eis Peter" about 100 meter in front of the main entrance.
We went to Laxenburg this weekend. It is a great place to spend a couple of hours. Rent a e-boat for a romantic sail around the old castle. Then you can have a coffee on the water. It is really great in this hot weather.
