Three nights in St Wolfgang w family had to decide between Bad Ischl Thermen or Zwölferhorn. Weather report made it easy... Beautiful, sunny, warm day - during and after a 15 minute, very smooth gondola ride we had the view of a lifetime. Skiiers climbing the mountain in a long row brought to mind pilgrimage. Fresh snow at summit added a wonderful fore ground for the dozens of photos I shot. The only downside was hordes of rude Asian tourists and a few skiiers who cut it close slaloming around hikers... Certainly realize it's first and foremost a ski area , but let's share the road.Price seemed a little steep, but certainly worth a trip if you're in the area.

Rising up in the cable car through the early morning fog into the warm sunshine and fabulous views above was breathtaking.

Take this cable car from St.Gilgen to have a beautiful view to the lake and the hills around. Don't miss it!

As far as cable cars go this one looks like it's stuck in the 1970's but the view from the summit on a clear day was amazing. Perfectly adequate cafe at the top which is very small but the food was excellent.

We paid our 22 euros and hopped into the cable car. At the top, we were awed by the views. Simply gorgeous! There was a tiny Advent market at the top, not too far from Franz's hut. You can climb some stairs to take you to platforms where the views are even better. There was also a snow-covered trail that led to a point where you had 360' views. So thankful we had a beautiful day to enjoy the amazing views! Wow!

Incredible experience, a little expensive a t 25 euros each but the views are worth it! There is a little restaurant at the top.

This was undoubtedly the highlight of our trip to Austria. We stayed in St Gilgen and so only had a three minute walk to the cable car. It is good value for money the lady in the ticket office was exceptionally efficient and friendly, making a big fuss about it being the first time that our daughter was going to see snow. The cable car service runs all day and we went straight after breakfast so there were no queues. The journey up and down takes about ten minutes and the views are breathtaking. There are several walks at the top for walkers seeking differing levels of adventure. My husband climbed right to the top whilst my daughter and I stayed with my parents on the lower leve. Both the cable car station and the restaurant at the top offer brilliant opportunities to have a drink whilst taking in the spectacular views. Definitely worth the money – do it!We stayed at hotel Maxant on our way back from Austria and it was an extremely pleasant experience. The hotel is well equipped and exceptionally welcoming. The breakfast is good and the service in the restaurant in the evening fast and friendly. The hotel has a pool, an indoor area with loungers for reading and relaxing aswell as spa and sauna. Its position in central and only minutes from the lake. I thoroughly recommend this hotel and will definitely go back.

A short bus trip from Mondsee along a very scenic route you arrive in the picturesque village of St Gilgen. The cable car is right next to the bus stop, so it is a short walk to the station. As we arrived a tour group appeared and pushed to the front. Standard practice in Europe it appears so we had to wait a bit. Eventually we got into the four seater cable car for the +/-15 minute ride to the top. Well it’s worth the wait. The spectacular views begin once you clear the cable car station. Firstly back over Lake Wolfgangsee, then the Schafberg and eventually Lake Mondsee. Once at the top the views are breathtaking, with alpine panoramas and lake vistas. Walk to the top of the Zwolferhorn for a 360 degree panorama. You get a very good impression of the height of these peaks, which still have generous covering of snow after the summer. There are a number of short walks back down to St Gilgen or wander the 3km to Pillstein and back to work up an appetite as an excuse to stop off at the restaurant for some typical Austrian food and an excellent Apple Strudel.

Love cable cars, love views from high places, love restaurants on top of high places. This was really wonderful.

We went up the cable car on a sunny warm day. The cabins are somewhat aged and cramped, with enough room though for 4 passengers. The first cab we took up seemed to get very hot in the sunlight, and brought us all out in a sweat, despite the window being wide open. The one back down was the opposite with a very pleasant breeze going through. The views on the way up are stunning, with at least three lakes on view, and over the back of the Zwölferhorn views of the Dachstein too. Very well worth the trip, just for the aerial views of the Salzkammergut lakes!

We were anxious-- gee it looked like it was so high up in that cable car to the top--we aren't crazy about heights--but the cable cars are very nice and so is the service getting in and out--although beware there are still stairs to get up and down. Fortunately the cars don't hang up very high in the air so that is good. Sit facing backward going up and sit forward going down. The view up over the lakes and alps is breathtaking and once you get up there it is even better if that is possible-- several nice easy walking paths with awesome views of the snow capped alps in the distance (even in September) and a couple of cafe's too. We think it is hilarious that they ask you when you get your ticket if you want one way or round trip. Apparently many people hike down. Yikes! It would be a beautiful hike but it takes over 2 hours to do and you have to be prepared with water and sturedy shoes. If you do nothing else in the region take this cable car ride-- not cheap. I think $22 euros each. But worth every penny. You only live once.

We went up the cable car twice. The first day was in glorious hot sun and we enjoyed many hours of walking and taking in the views plus the mountain restaurants before returning. The second visit was a little hairy as a giant thunderstorm stopped the cars when we were about halfway up. It eventually cleared and things got back to normal and we were able to walk back to our hotel in Fuschl from the top, There is plenty for everyone with some level walking, great views and harder stuff if you want it.

This was something fantastic. Driving through St Gilgen without any expectation at all, and finding a cable car leading you to the top of the world. There are many cable cars in the world, but this is, in my opinion, definitely one of the best. I don’t know how it is in winter time, but in summer time it is simply fantastic. You have breath taking views, you have paths to walk and you have a restaurant with not bad food at all if you are hungry or thirsty. 12 points.

very good beautiful views, you can take an easy walk around the top o the mountain, head down to one o the hutts for a warm pretzel and beer, then if your game take the walk down into St Gilgen there are easy and harder routes very nice scenery and a good long walk into the town worth The walk and nice cows and woodlands.
