This is not as ornate as many but just as beautiful with all the white carved marble inside. Another one to put on the list while strolling around the old town
Very different style than the Cathedral. Nice stone columns and interesting ceiling. It is dark in the entrance, but brighter in the back. Worth walking though for 30 minutes.
Had a wonderful time attending an evening mass. Silent night was performed very well. Beautiful church with a great service.
Attended a Saturday evening mass service and found the church to be beautiful on the inside as well as the outside!!
Saw many people going into this church on a Sunday morning. Followed them in and was surprised to find a Catholic mass beginning. The church is almost entirely of stone. Nothing ornate, just 5 columns of stone rising up to hold the roof. Very different from the ornate churches of Italy or even the USA. A rather plain, yet powerful place of worship.
the formal church has remarkable ornate Rococo interiorIt is one of the few churches that had retained it medieval character
A magnificent church both outside and inside. The interior is just beautiful and there is plenty to see inside. At the time I went in, there was a big tour but they weren't being loud and I was able to find somewhere to sit and marvel at the beautiful interior. There is plenty to see within this one building and it is not the place that gets advertised a lot. I just came across it between two visits to attractions. Glad also that you aren't forced to pay an entrance fee or followed by people with charity boxes which appears to happen a lot these days with religious buildings.
We visited the magnificent church when in Salzburg for the day. It is very beautiful outside but inside is Spectacular. A stunningly beautiful interior and apparently not well known to the tour groups as it was practically deserted when we were there. I would heartily recommend visiting this treasure.
The food is definitely well prepared and delicious and the setting is spectacular. The service is good but I felt it was inattentive and detached, very impersonal.Which goes to the main criticism of the place. You feel like you are onlu a source of revenue for them. They pitch their products to you unapologetic, trying (I felt) to make you spend more. Believe, the place is expensive enough for them to be trying to sell you more. I got the impression that perhaps the place has become too touristic. It's a shame really, it could be a great restaurant. But I hope I am not being overcritical here, the food and the wine were great.
I have been in all the other cathedrals/churches in Salzburg over the many times visiting but somehow I missed this one, one of the oldest churches in Salzburg. Magnificent! Seems that the tour groups don't go here so you must! The ceiling is a true work of art in itself. I find this IS the church to go to in Salzburg if you want peace, prayer and beauty! DO NOT MISS!
Even though we aren't Catholic, we enjoy participating in Mass at Cathedrals in Europe. We had heard that Franziskanerkirche had a 7:00 p.m. mass on the evening we arrived in Salzburg. Not knowing that it was associated with the Franciscans, we were taken by the sincerity of the experience. It didn't feel like this was the "7:00 pm. showing," but a genuine religious experience. It isn't the largest Cathedral in the city, but it really fits. While it is difficult to call any Cathedral "simple," it is an apt word to describe the connection being inside of it has with the divine.
The Franziskaner Church is in the same neighbourhood as the Dome and the buildings surrounding it. At least I prefer this church to the Dome - it has fewer visitors and feels more "genuine" than the Dome being the general show piece. If you want a feel for the Franciskans, a not overwhelming taste of a baroque church and some peace and quite for a bit of meditation maybe, this church is your refuge.
A beautiful church, simple in some parts with amazing tall, slender, unadorned columns and then a very ornate gilded high altar. The ceiling is beautiful; some of the side chapels are riotously decorated. There is a peaceful atmosphere here. Well worth visiting.
it is 16th century gothic church. It very huge and impressive inside but also quite humble. old town area there are nice and huge churches this is one of them. Classically huge walls, nice paintings and sculptures inside. If you are lucky, you can encounter while somebody is playing organ.
