You start by sitting through what amounts to a 360 degree PR film for Stiegl beer and its purity and origins, but it is quite a clever theater. From there it is a long self-guided walking tour through one exhibit after another, that seems a bit long. There are a few english translations here and there, but just when it is starting to get old, you arrive for your tasting. You get 3 .33 liter tastings of whatever you like (there are about a 8 or 9 seasonals) and then it is two for one. You also get a bottle opener as a gift upon leaving. It's a long walk from the old town, but it is walkable.

I never thought visiting a bier factory woul dbe so informative as well as great food ..It is a great activity to do for an evening. The Bier museum is very interesting an dthen you can have a great dinner with bier tasting. You can either take a taxi or bus to the Stiegl Brau. We had Fritatten Souppe, Viener Schnitzel, Potato salad and small glasses of bier to taste..A good activity with family ..

Brilliant place. Take the tour & get a few samplers at the end. Enjoyed the food in the beer garden it was priced appropriately. Loved it.

We didn't take the tour as we were on a day trip from Munich mostly in Salzburg for the Christmas market. We ate and sampled the beers at the restaurant though. There's plenty of selection of brews on tap in addition to the classic Grapefruit Stiegl, which come in perfect-sized glasses for sampling (not too small, not too big.) My schnitzel was good and came with a cranberry chutney that I really enjoyed. My friend's sausage and pretzel were also nice. Afterwards we cruised the gift shop where you can buy the beers bottled, cold or room-temp, at an amazing price along with other Stiegl brand items. We had one beer to go and I brought one home as a souvenir.

Stiegl Brauwelt is very worthy of the visit. It offers a guide to how beer has been made, examples of old bottles, a great shop & restaurant & bar.

Close to the fortress with nice city views of Old Town. Beer is very good. Food is basic. Pork, kraut, etc..

I arrived by bus, a short walk from the suggested bus stop. I think I went on a quiet day, I only saw another 3 people in the whole place. Very interesting tour of how the beer is made and the history of the beer and the actual brewery where it stands now. There was also lot son bottling and advertising. I didn't get the beer tasting, I think the person manning the station had taken a break. I did get a bag of free beer cookies as a gift.

The museum was interesting but very small. i really enjoyed the atmosphere and the complimentary beers they gave to us. We had lunch there....tipical austrian environment! Stiegl is amazing!!!! best experience in salzburg!

We 4 turned up at the door without a booking for dinner with no problems and had an excellent table with plenty of space and quick service. It was a Sunday (4th January) but the staff were ever so friendly and spoke English. We were recommended this restaurant for authentic Austrian fare and we were not dissapointed and the portions are very generous and very reasonably priced with drinks and mains for €85 all in.Try the dumplings and sauerkraut with roast pork, gammon and sausage. Enjoy life and eat here five mins walk from the train station.

I toured the brewery with my college classmates. It was a great tour, plus we got free beer at the end.

Several people suggested we check out the Stiegl Brewery and unfortunately we were let down by the visit. First, there are two restaurants but there was no one there to tell us what the difference between the two was or to even tell us if we should seat ourselves. Finally I flagged down a server who told us to sit. When our server finally came over he informed us that we would need to be out by 4PM (2 1/2 hours later). We said we just wanted to eat lunch and would definitely not need 2 1/2 hours. I always ask servers what they recommend and he wasn't helpful at all (even at offering suggestions of beer). In fact, I felt like we were a nuisance. We got two Steigl burgers which were dry and not very appetizing. I'll admit that burgers are probably not the best choice, but that's why I wanted some input from our server. After we ate we did the tour (that costs 11 euro). Wow what a waste of time. It is not even a tour of the brewery. It is just a rehash of the 10 minute video you watch at the beginning of the tour (more about how beer is made). Finally we headed to the bar for our free tasting. They must have been preparing for some kind of event because even thought the restaurant was 3/4 empty, every table had a "reserved" sign on it. The staff didn't really no what to do with us so they moved us to 2 bar tables in between the two restaurants, dropped 3 beers off without explanation and left us to it. I suppose we may have visited on an off day, but at the very least the tour wasn't worth it. If one is a beer fan then maybe a visit to the restaurant MIGHT be worth it but really I think there are other places I'd rather get a beer and some food in Salzburg.

We choose not to wait for a guided tour and this is whee we came undone. All the tour stuff is in German with no English signage at all. End result was we didn't really get much of a tour as we had no idea. We ended up in a closed part of the public area -a function room perhaps - so I am not rating the tour at all.The food and beer however were great. I had the schnitzel and it was what every one should be like; not oily, light coating and juicy. It was also a decent size which is good. My wife had the filled dumplings which she rated highly, with different fillings to be had.The beer selection is good and drunk correctly and in order shows how beer can vary. For us the highlight was having Edi the manager explain all the different beers they have in their cabinets, where they come from, how they vary and what temperature they need to be served at. Edi is a beer Sommlier and a good one too. Whilst the place is hard to find - no signs in English, so turn left at the end of the road not right - it is a good place for a reasonable meal along with a large variety of beer. The shop has all sorts but also at tourist pricing.

We found this brewery by happy accident as we were out walking around Old Town. It's absolutely HUGE with tons of seating both inside and outside. We sat outside and had a gorgeous view of the city. The food was very good (hard to go wrong with pig products, cheese, bread, and BEER)! This was a high point of our trip!

We went here as a trip for my boyfriend as I'm not a huge fan of beer myself. But I was hugely surprised. The tour was an amazing experience - seems to be high budget which is cool. Really interesting hearing about the history and how it's made. Then being able to taste three beers at the end was great. Even I loved them! There was also a small Christmas market in the square between the brewery which was a great touch. My only reason for not marking higher is that without a car, we couldn't get there without walking. I'm sure there's alternatives but we couldn't find any anywhere!

The weisswurst is to die for here and you can't go wrong with a cold beer or two. Try the special advent beer while it lasts!
