This fresh water lake is a very scenic spot in the middle of the mountains and offers spectacular views. Take a boat trip round the lake and you can visit 3 villages that share this lake, Achenkirch, Pertisau and Maurach. In the summer, when it warm enough, the lake offers the possible of swimming and other water sports. In winter when the lake freezers over, ice-skating is a possibility. There are tracks around the lake for bike riding in summer and flat skiing in winter. A really unspoilt area of Austria that's a hidden gem
We visited Achensee as part of a coach day-trip from Seefeld and we were given the option of boarding the boat at one end of the lake and to be picked up at the other end. The day we visited Achensee was a beautiful summer's day and the lake was just stunning in it's beauty. So if you ever get the opportunity to visit this little bit of paradise please take it.
Quiet scenic boat ride on the lake combined with pleasant walks thru divers eve forests and gentle slopped paths
Visiting this lake was amazing. I decided to walk along the side of the mountain instead of go on the boat. But be warned. It is a hard climb/ walk so take plenty of water and decent shoes. The walk was so worth it at various points because the views were spectacular, which you would not get from the boat. A lovely day.
Looking at the lake is one of the most beautiful things in the world. From the mountain, boat, or shore, it is gorgeous. Swimming in the lake is nice after you get used to the ice cold water. There is one beach and are in the lake that are great. It is sandy and nice to walk on. The rest of the swimming areas are formed with rocks that hurt to walk on. I hated that part, but it was still a wonderful experience. I highly recommend you stick to the part around Maurach with the sand.
Imagine snow mountains with a view to a frozen lake surrounded by other mountais, better saying, all surrounded by snow mountains. Ski paths for all kinds of skiers, and facilities all around. To make it even better, a nice restaurant with delicious meals waiting for us. We loved it !
Great place to relax from the big city. Peace and quiet. A lot of routes for hiking around the lake and mountains .
We liked our every moments at Achensee, At first we had a cable car ride to Rofan montain (Rofanbahn)when you reach at the top of the mountain you can enjoy lots of activities in both and summer and winter including Flying fox, Para-sailing, Rock-climbing etc. You can see the breathtaking Lake achensee view from the rofan mountain. After that we had a nice walk and good relaxing time at lake Achensee.
I first saw the lake flying into innsbruck and when I took to the train from innsbruck station to go to Jenbach from where a clog wheel train with a steam engine takes you to Achensee. The train journey is a great experience in itself .The Achensee station is right on the edge of the lake, where a boat is waiting to take you around. A combined ticket for Rs 57 Euro per head covers the return journey and the boat ride into this beautiful lake. I shall leave it to the pictures to describe the experience.
Beautiful, large, clean (unfortunately cold) lake .. surrounded by an inexhaustible number of hills and rocks, which are ideal for hiking trips. When walking (climbing) you stumble upon waterfalls and prospects. We will return in the future.
If you really looking for some nice place where to stay for holidays...this is the one and only.We went to Maurach Buchau. Parking fee for whole day is 5 euros. You can take bicycle, roller skates, you can go for swimming, sailing, diving, kiting, borrow pedalo, anything you want. The area in Buchau is amazing for really small children, there are biig green area for playing sports, playground for children, kiosk, restaurant, toilets whatever you need. The trees are around so you can stay in the shade. The water is crystal clear, thats why it is cold about 21°C in August but who cares.Beach is mix of sand and pebbles but ok for your feet.We went as well to the "beach bar" close by, they put the sand all around so with the water in the lake it looks like in Caribbean :D. Friendly staff and ok prices. Looking forward to come back soon!
Really. Don't come here. It's only the most beautiful place on Earth, with the nicest people. But if you come here, then people will know about this place and it will get all commercialized and stuff, and that would be bad. So stay home.So what if there's a lovely cog railway that takes you up the most beautiful mountain in the world? Who cares if there's a beautiful ship that circles the lake with stops at several scenic spots, food and drink service, and WCs? Why would you want to see a lake that looks as good in rain as in sunshine? In snow as in summer?
Perfect place to stay mainly in summer. I think you can even swim inside and I m sad we have visited this place in time when it wasnt hot so we couldnt try it. So clear water, many boats that make place looks like Marseille. It is also great to take a train from Jenbach which will bring you to the lake. In Pertisau u can find souvenirs shops and many hotels and places to eat or drink. I could spent all day here and make many beautiful pictures. Cannot wait to come back, dont miss it!
Idyllic, beautiful,a real gem. There are boat trips and also the cog wheel railway from Jenbach.Plenty of nice walks.
Love visiting this area where my daughter lives with her husband--both New Zealanders-- great dramatic scenery. Lots of places to walk and skiing for those who like the snow. Plenty of walking tracks plus the lake access for water related activities. Many interesting villages within short driving distances. Good grocery shopping and easy access to a tourist train and boat activity and gondola to mountain tops. While I did not need to use rental accommodation, my son and his family from Sydney had lovely spacious unit at the nearby camping ground.
