Nice grass beach, little restaurant and take away shop. Water very refreshing and not deep, you can stand everywhere. Breathtaking scenery and dog friedly. When nice extremely busy , hard to find parking. Looking forward to summer already.
If you like to have a rest, or take long walking / biking tours through the valleys then the Achensee is the place to be. This of course during the summer, when you can do a daring 22 km walk along the borders of the lake. Or in the winter when walking / or cross country skiing is your thing.
About 9 km long this lake is surrounded by snow topped mountains. Great mountain bike routes, a strenuous and beautiful lake side walk. A gondola to take you to perfect paragliding take off or mountain walks. Some climbing sites along the way. Stunning scenery from every aspect and relatively unspoilt. A little chilly for any kind of watersport but I guess it gets acceptably warm in the summer. A couple of ski resorts either end of the lake during the winter. Well just plain heaven.
The Achensee is nicely placed between the mountains. Doesn't matter if you want to relax, hike, bike, surf of SCUBA, everything is possible
Beautiful scenery, great boat trip on lake, amazing rack railway.Beautiful scenery, great boat trip on lake, amazing rack railway.
The village of Achensee famous for its Lake and surrounding countryside is well worth a visit. However, you need time to explore its surroundings. What a stunning area, somewhere where you could spend a week by itself. The lake was still, even with the tour boats running on it, the countryside green and the village picturesque. Towards the far end is a steam train that runs you part way along the lake. Worth going back and spending a week here.
The lake itself is nice, bigger than the regular alpine lakes and the water has a very nice colour...but the place itself is not too interesting and a bit touristic, and I found the water is too cold to enjoy a bath even during August! Luckily we found another lake close by after we asked someone there, that was by far much better & full of locals.
We took the traditional railway from Jenbach to reach Lake Achensee and arrive in a cloud of smoke and steam. The train was crowded and noisy but there were some great views ascending.Lake Achensee is a large attractive lake / reservoir ringed by mountains with a ferry boat sailing up and down and plenty of local amenities and water sports. We were there in the middle of August. It was relaxed and pleasure to walk along the shore line (for miles if you wish) or find a restaurant or bar at one of the small villages and just sit and take in the views.
The lake itself is beautiful, with clear ice cold water, and ever changing colors, from turquoise to blue, depending on time of day, and amount of sunlight. It offers something for everyone, from the sports enthusiast to the vacationer who seeks out peace and quiet.
This lake is perhaps set in one of the most beautiful areas in Europe. Yje water is a gorgeous green and blue. There are straight tracks and you can walk easily 15 kilometers along the lake and then take the comfortable boat back . Highly recommended.
Took an organised trip to this area and went for a sail on the lake. Scenery is stunning and so peaceful. Really worth a trip to this lovely lake.
but best visited in the sunshine! There's a boat trip you can take around the lake which is lovely but it has to be said unless it's sunny, the views are a bit 'samey' and it's also very cold!Beware if you take this trip as part of the Inghams package - the boat ride ISN'T included in the trip and is quite an expensive addition.
Whilst on holiday at Seefeld, we booked a coach excursion to Pertisau, situated by Lake Achensee. It was a fine, sunny day so we took advantage of this to have a round trip on the TIROL Boat, the tickets for which cost 16 Euros for an adult ~ equivalent to about £13. The trip from Pertisau to the end of the Lake lasts about 75 minutes and it is a very peaceful and calm experience, albeit in good weather. This was our third visit, the previous ones being in rainy conditions, and the views from the boat trips on those occasions were obscured by low cloud. It is essential to have good weather for the best possible experience. It is a very scenic area to visit and a great attraction for visitors.
We enjoyed the boat trip very much but if you like to move a bit quicker then hire some bikes from the shop in Achenkirch. They were very helpful. We hire E:bikes which make cycling fun and enjoyable without all the strain. We cycled the whole area of the lake up to Pertisau on 2 occasions and back and we'd thoroughly recommend doing this if you are an infrequent cyclist. I know that some people (those who don't know how good they are) can be a bit sniffy about E:Bikes but if you haven't done it then it's like cycling if you were 20 times fitter than you are - but you still have to make an effort - it doesn't "run away" with you. I'm reasonably risk averse so if I'll do it then it isn't scary! You can always turn off the motor as well if you are a lot fitter than you thought!
