Although it is small it is worth seeing. Half an hour will be enough for a quick visit. It is a two floored building and a bit expensive to enter. You will have a great idea of Greek history.
The museum is small, but do have some interesting displays with english explanations - on both floors. We spent about 30 minutes there, paying 4 Euros each.We were not allowed to take photos inside the museum.Outside the museum there is a lot of ruins of houses and alleys.
It may not be very big, but with very interesting displays. The whole Pythagorion appears like an archeogical site. in the museum you find all the descriptions. The artifacts found are presented in a very handsome way. The restorations are very cleverly perfomed.
Passed an interesting and pleasant hour or so here looking at the history of Samos through images found on the island. Lots of rather elegant statues and beautiful pots, glassware etc. all elegantly laid out in a cool, modern and spacious setting. A nice contrast to the heat outside!
You can't visit Samos without admiring its history. We visited museums in Pythagoria and Samos Town. Both were excellent. This is an excellent air conditioned museum with very good presentation and explanations. It was both relaxed and informative
This museum togetehr with one in Samos Town means the island is very well equipped with archaeological museums. The Pythagorio museum has some very fine Roman mosaics in a modern building.
This is new museum which presents all the recent finds from Hereion and other sites on Samos. The presentation of objects is first class with excellent explanations in both Greek and English.
A modern, well-structured museum, with comprehensive labels and a narrative line from the hellenistic to the Byzantine period of Samos. The museological design is clear and communicates perfectly the past life and history to the visitors. Very impessive - deserves a visit.
There's a lot going on in Pythagorio! The harbour is lovely, lots of nice places to eat, drink and shop! You are surrounded by some pretty awesome history, which is easy to miss! The museum provides some detail of the area and provides many items of interests. coins, pottery, statues etc. A bonus is the archaeological dig going on right next to it. It's time Team in action (although slower). Samos is the birthplace of Pythagoras the ancient mathematician, modern history is just as interesting. You will get a real feel for the history of the area at the museum.
Lots of statues, pots, vases, grave goods. Large area outside of the building is currently under excavation. Whilst you cannot walk around it, you can see it from various points.
Pythagorion is now a little tourist village with some fishermen. 2500 years ago it was a bustling city of 50 000. Visit this museum to see how people lived in Samos back then and admire artifacts from their homes and temples.Very interesting.
This seems to me to be one of the crown jewels of Samos' archeological heritage tourism. A modern, well-designed museum, telling a clear story of the development of ancient Samos through to the Byzantine period, complete with live excavation of an artisan quarter on the plot next door to the museum, giving the whole experience a very real contextual underpinning. The exhibits are well labelled and have a clear narrative flow through the museum. Whilst the highly prized Heraion artefacts reside in the Samos archeological Museum in the capital, Vathy, Pythagorieo has by far the best collection of hellenistic and imperial statuary on the island. As always with Greek museums and historical sites, entry is very cheap - three euros per person, and a complimentary little guide leaflet thrown in for good measure.
This museum is well worth a visit. Excellent displays and well documented. The skill in reconstructing the exhibits from just a few pieces is amazing. Although quite small we still spent a couple of hours viewing.
Spent an hour in this museum, if you like ancient ruins or Greek heritage then I advise you pay a visit. Lots of interesting little bits to see, plus it's free entry.
A lovely collection of historical artefacts, grouped largely by purpose/form, and accompanied by clear descriptions. Clearly displayed in a large, new, purpose-built building.
