great and informative and educational as well especially for children and those who love the sea! It's worth visiting.
Off we sailed to this maritime museum, never let your husband choose a fun afternoon. Actually it was interesting, lots of model ships and paintings. Like the fact that you can donate as much as you choose. Charming staff.
A small but friendly museum with a staff of volunteer retired ship captains. Not a lot of depth, but a nice place to visit if you are interested in this topic.
Chios Maritime Museum is near the center of chios. is a place full of images or models of old ships . there you can learn and watch all the maritime history of chios island . you can find why , greece is "No1" in sea ...from the "old times". i think its a place you have to visit , during your vacation in chios.!!!
Nice building, kind staff. What you see is models of ships and paintings. We would have liked information on fishermen and their culture. The pocket Chios map did not give the right location for the museum. The streetname (Stef. Tsouri) at the end of Aplotarias (main shop street) is correct but the museum is next to a church uphill.
A great display of Chian ships and Chian nautical artifacts. The staff is very friendly and more than willing to escort you and explain the exhibits. I would allocate an hour and a half for this museum. It is certainly well worth a visit. They do not charge an admission. They rely on your donation after your visit.
Chios is famous for it's maritime culture. If you are interested in that a visit to this musuem is a must.
I visited this with a friend's mom who is from Chios and from a shipping family. It is a wonderful museum showing the history of shipping in Chios complete with paintings and models of vessels. i learned that the Chians had a big business in shipping citrus to the Russians in the 19th and 20th centuries. Who knew?
If you are interested in the sea and ships this is the right place for you. The history of the ships of Chios island with some really old artifacts.
fun and interesting with lots of information and an old sailor who hangs around giving info he speaks little English but does speak Greek and french
This small but so important museum is located about 50m from the central market of Chios town. Its yard is welcoming visitors with a huge propeller and a very touching honorary monument for the Chian men of sea who lost their lives in Second World War.The building is very beautiful and the exhibits are mainly models of ships and navy paintings. What surprised me most though, was the so well kept painted ceilings! Really romantic and interesting! There is no entrance ticket but you can leave some money if you wish while leaving.
