Go to Pyrgi to experience a place where time has simply stood still. Visit Manos' shop where this young man will explain the traditions and customs surrounding the production of masticha and you can sample and buy many different masticha products. He also makes small and intricately carved decorative models of the houses which surround his shop. We visited in November, when the village was almost deserted but despite his appointment to train before a football game with a visiting team, Manos opened his shop especially for us and then spent time talking to us and explaining about the history and traditions of the village. A great experience.

The buildings are amazing. The walls are covered with mosaics which give you a strange feeling while walking through the narrow streets. I uploaded some photos for you to see. The city square is interesting. If you visit in July, August and September be prepared for very hot weather. It's "must see" village in Chios. A small town with few people on the streets.

Going to Pyrgi, was like going back in time. The area, the church, the people so friendly, the taverns willing to make what ever you like, the wine, the dogs and cats... cannot wait to get back, and enjoy a long dinner into the setting sun. This is a place you need to experience to understand.

Pyrgi is a very small, typical, medieval and old Greek village. It's famous with the houses of tattoo, definitely worth to see if you're nearby...you can spend an hour to see the village and maybe have a coffee in the cute coffee-house in the square.

it is located at the south part of the island, 25km from the city center (chora).Pyrgi stands out from the other villages in Chios because of the distinctive graffito technique used to decorate the exteriors of many of the buildings. It is based on plastering sand being applied to the wall, carefully painted white and then geometric shapes are scraped away. This technique was introduced by the Genovese.You really need to go there & walk around small pathways. Also you must try mastic fizzy drink.

It is a unique village with interesting architecture and nice paintings on the walls! You should visit it!

One of the villages in southern Chios, this one has an unusual feature...the houses are covered with stucco, but then designs (mostly geometric) are etched into the stucco. This is true only in this village, and those who grew up here (so there are a few houses outside of the village that also share the style). The village is pretty and has a nice central square. Even churches are decorated. Worth a visit.

Not only the nearby beautiful beaches welcome the visitor to go to Pyrgi, but a small and very well preserved Byzantine church can be found there. The Church of Aghioi Apostoloi (Holy Apostles) is open to the public from Tuesday to Saturday, 08:00 to 15:00, and it is used for religious purposes only once a year, on June 29, St. Peter and St. Paul's day.

A very special mastic town. The houses have unique mosaics. Ans you can see the pirgy tomats hanging on the walls. You have to go to Pyrgi, when you are in Chios.

Just before the square of the village we found this great shop where the young friendly owner help us choose between great traditional artifacts, delicacies and drinks to take back home :)

The houses are beautifully decorated in black and white... Lovely central square with places to eat and drink. Buses go from Chios Town regularly... A must-see place.

Historical village with interesting houses deserves a stop-over. has little square with few cafeterias, and few shops. And that's about it. Nearby Mesta is a much more pictoresque town, tough...

It's too far from Chios town to walk, but you can easily get there on an ordinary island bus. It's fun, it's cheap. it's interesting, and you may meet some local people. And in Pyrgi, have a refreshing mastic "spoon sweet", as once enjoyed by the odalisques of the Sultan's seraglio.Just beyond Pyri, there's a lonely taverna on the shore, where they serve wonderful fish and you may have the whole beach practically to yourself. The bus driver will know where.

The House decorations symboliques are very interesting. One can spend hours and hours there strolling in the streets, sipping coffee or mastica liqueur at the square
