There is a good story to tell about Nafplion and the display do it well. But for a top class museum, extra vibrancy would come from more contemporary displays and interactive material.
This museum shows a range of National costumes and interiors of decorated rooms from that time. With the lift the small museum is easy to visit.
Interesting and well placed small museum, gives the visitor an impression of how people were living in Nafplio during the 19th century. It also has an interesting museum shop.
Great little museum in the heart of the old town. Lovely building and very interesting exhibits. Unusually for Greece, everything is very well labelled in English and displayed beautifully. Great shop too.
We stepped out of the rain, and into the museum. While the focus of our trip was ancient Greece, this was a very charming diversion. There was a low entry fee, and the kids were free. The museum provided some great insight into living in the region in the ninteenth and early twentieth centuries. We found the costumes/traditional dress, and household articles differed greatly from what was used in our region at the time. A fantastic visit.
Only the building is a beauty for the eyes. You can visit it in half an hour. Don't forget to buy the 18th and 19th century travelers paintings. They will give you an idea of the greatness of the history of Nafplio.
Brilliant. A unique collection of costumes and accessories from the past together with the history of each item. The tools and looms from the past were in excellent condition and well produced in tableaux form. Only 2 Euros with pensioner discount!!
My grandmather was born in 1899 and she showed me much more interesting clothes and furniture! This museum lays on two floors: the uppermost has one room and the other one three; really not much to see. Luckily the cost of the entrance is just 3 euros (kids free)
This is a great museum to visit, Lots of local interest here so you will understand what has been going on locally for the people of Nafplio and surrounding areas.
A very interesting insight into life in Nafplio and in Greece in general during the 19th and early 20th centuries. All the exhibits are well displayed and explained.
I go to this small museum each time I visit Nafplio and I never tire of it. It's contents are tastefully displayed and the collection is quite remarkable. There was even a Singer sewing machine IDENTICAL to my mother's!! (Singer is big in Greece.) The gift shop had a potpourri of items including some unusual ones.
Just a lot of old furniture, costumes and objects of the 19th century. I expected something more interesting. Not worth the ticket paid.
This museum was mostly clothing and, while some of the costuming and embroidery was beautiful, it lacked descriptions throughout the exhibit that connected the pieces to history. I did like the room full of looms, and the fabric and weaving descriptions, but even that room was very unfinished.Overall, the museum's state seemed like it was a few months prior to opening, and still needed organization and better presentation. Though for a few euro it's still worth a visit if it isn't a large group of people.
This is not the sort of museum we usually seek out, but we stopped in here on a whim, and found it pretty interesting. A small museum focused on costumes and crafts from the 1800s.
See the unique folklores treasures that this museum has and enjoy the time to see how homes were set out. For those of you who enjoy fine needlework and you are lucky enough to see some interesting pieces that will add to your repetoire.
