Since I was a child I have seen pics of this place, red columns the horns, king Minos seat and always thought: one day I will go there, and one day I was there. It was amazing. The place reachable by local bus is placed in a valley full of olive trees. And the ruins are beautiful, hard to believe it is a palace and not a whole city.I enjoyed it every minute, go there early in the morning or in the afternoon, avoid crowds. Once you finish visit the bar and enjoy a wonderful orange juice. The memory is perfect.

Nice and fun to see but don't spend much long there. The best in Crete is explore the island and see maximum you can. Enjoy.

Knossos Palace is a little ay out of Heraklion but easy to get to either by taxi or public transport- bus. We had a very enjoyable day there. The Palace is in extensive grounds which are open to the public. The day we visited was free admission. It was very busy with lots of visitors. The areas of excavation are very interesting & show how the Palace must have looked before its decline. Theres a lovely store in the grounds selling artefacts etc & outside the gates a strip of shops selling touristy items.

Pros; easy to walk around, nice views.Cons; sometimes crowded with herds of Asian tourists - much of the exhibitions are closed off to the public.

An impressive archeological site magnificently preserved if you consider that it is 5000 years old!A must see monument. You travel through time as you walk inside the famous Minoan Labyrinth. You can visit the throne room of Minoas and see the luxurious apartments of the queen, with her exlusive and fully decorated bathroom. All the important rooms are lavishly painted with scenes of nature, and they are beautifully preserved as it was buried for more than 2000 years.Even more impressive is the fact that their houses were of 2 or 3 stories, something incredible for such an early civilization.Don't forget to see the amazing wall decorations with the prince of lillies and the other with the bull.During summer it can get really hot so don't forget to have a hat and water with you.Best time to visit is early in the morning.

This is a great visit. We took a coach trip to the Palace of Knossos, which is a really interesting place to visit. You also can explore the little village around the area and have an amazing lunch nearby. Fascinating place and the tour guide we were with was brilliant. Well worth a visit.

Love the history of Crete and Knossos is one of the best places to see it, go early in the day as it get really hot from 12/1 onwards, and take some water in a cool bag if you can. It's not as good as it was years ago as a lot of the ruins are now cordoned off, but that's necessary to preserve them and you still see lots of the palace. Definitely worth a visit.

Let the Prince of the Lilies and the Blue Ladies guide you through the palace's maze and take you back in time... to the magical era of King Minos, Princess Ariadne and Minotaur - the mythical monster. If you are near Heraklion, we strongly recommend that you don’t miss out on visiting the palace of Knossos. Knossos was one of the most advanced cities of ancient Greece and the centre of the famous Minoan civilization. The first settlement at Knossos dates back to the Neolithic Age, around 7,000BC.The palace of Knossos was the heart of the city of Knossos and throne to the legendary King Minos, son of Zeus and Europe. This brilliant palace was designed by the legendary architect Daedalus. It was a multi-storey building covering approximately 20,000 sqm.Knossos is connected with great legends such as the story of Daedalus and Icarus, the fearsome Minotaur, and the love story of Theseus and Ariadne. Before you plan your visit to Knossos, we suggest you have a look at these myths. They might prove fascinating for your kids.…Knossos Palace is a pleasant travel back in time, don’t miss it out.Families should know: We recommend you buy some water before entering the archaeological site Do not forget your hat and sunscreen, especially during the summer months when the sun is quite intense and shade is scarce If you visit the area in summer, it would be good to avoid the midday hours (12.00 – 16.00) due to high temperatures Avoid the weekends as it can be crowded During the summer months there are usually long queues at the ticket counters. We suggest arriving relatively early in the morning Unfortunately, for the restoration of the palace, cement has been used in several places. Do not expect to see the maze as it is just part of the myth of Knossos In some parts of the palace there are stairs, which makes access for strollers a bit challenging Eating is not allowed inside the archaeological site

Walking around Knossos really opened our eyes to the sophistication of ancient culture. This is definitely a must do when in Crete - be sure to go early and purchase the combo tickets that allow you to visit the museum in Heraklion. It is simply amazing and you will need to entire day to see both. We did Knossos in the morning and then took a lunch break at the Heraklion market. It was a great way to pause, eat some great Cretan food and then a short walk to the museum (air conditioned). We were traveling as a family ranging in age from 17 to 79 and everyone loved the day. It is important to tour Knossos early to avoid the crowds and the heat.

Simply astonishing! We had read about it but never visited. A great monument. Be advised, you'd need to spend many hours to take it all in and also later explore the museum too.

It is unique piece of history, but well... No museum attached, poor or no descriprion of the objects etc. Of course its a must see location in Crete, but could be so much better.

The ruins of the palace are extensive. A self-guided tour is easy because there is excellent signage. The most eye-catching parts of the complex are the restorations which give a better idea of the original palace than the stone foundations alone. Both the ruins and the archaeological museum should be visited to have a better understanding of Minoan Crete.

The archaeologist Evans dreamed about a palace and this is Knossos. What is real or what was added by him, you will have to discover. I recommend a visit to the Archaeological Museum of Heraklion to get a better picture of the Minoan civilization.

Visiting places that I only saw depicted in history books while I was in primary school has always a fascinating effect bringing a lot of memories. The palace itself is huge and sometimes overcrowded, so I would suggest to get a guided tour (it costs 10 Euro) instead of roaming around. Thanks to our knowledgeable guide, we got to know a lot of secrets and anecdotes related to this fantastic site. One of the best and well maintained archaeological site.
