Although not the most obvious proposal for accommodation on that island, i would definitely prefer it in my next visit. Picturesque architecture, away from crowed Aigiali, easy buses to most of the great beaches, great places to eat and few very nice pubs. Give a shot to the less advertised side of the island, it is totally worth it.
Good food, nice people, beautiful little streets, the sunset.. :) The locals keep offering shots of honey brewed raki , the "raki psimeni", each family has their own version of the secret recipe, so every shot is different. There's a certain cosmopolitan atmosphere in the Chora, it's very relaxing and you can have it all - a posh drink at a rooftop bar with an amazing view and a delicious meal at a traditional family tavern. And of course, the sea!
This place is so pretty and very typical of Greece. Visit the tiny church which only takes three people. Close by is an amazing taverna called Kathodon, located in a small square. Just walk around and soak up the beauty.
Lovely village with several quality shops and restaurants. And the bus stops here! Great place to see the sunset, then have dinner.
Nice place. Great sunset view in the afternoon. A walk there was a bit tiring because of the stairs, but we enjoyed the whole stay.
Beautiful narrow streets, the wonderful style of Cyclades, small shops with hand crafted art, good food and lovely wine!
Great shops. Great food. Great atmosphere. Really kind and smiling people.the most quainty village in all Cyclades. Check the orange pie in Kallisto
Lovely place to visit and not spoilt. Winding lanes with little tavernas and shops to spend a couple of hours.
Thats the most important village of Amorgos, after Katapoula and Aegiali (Harbours). As ther is no airport you can reach the two harbours by boat . I strongly sugest to use "Express Skopelitis", from Naxos Island, a 5 hours trip, magnificent, if ther is no wind and not to high waves.
maybe the most beautiful Chora of cyclades...many different corners with various atmosphere..beautiful narroe streets ..White and blue...with the Castle protecting you welcoming... every single bar cafe taverna has its own style AND CHARACTER..never gets boring....thank you for your hospitality at the Fiesta cellebrating a Religious event..with music , DANCE ,traditional dish and ofcourse PSIMENI...
One of the most beautiful "chora"in Cyclades.Very clean, very nicely maintained, beautiful churches, houses, small gift shops, cafes, restaurants. The only disadvantage is that it is usually very windy, so choose a day that in the rest of the island is totally calm.
Chora of Amorgos is the most beautiful Chora at Cyclades. Greeks call Chora the capital of an island. It is a very quiet place, with beautiful churches, little squares everywhere, and a long row of windmills. You will find lots of small streets with flowers like bougainvillaea and trees, combining a fantastic setting, great for taking pictures. Walking the small streets there are tourist shops, cafés and very romantic restaurants. If someday come to Amorgos remember to visit Chora. You will not forget it. You are going to love it!
High in the hills of a quiet island lies this village. Lack of easy access protects it from the gigantic cruise ships. The wonderful charm of the people and the narrow winding streets makes one want to relax here for an extended period.
Hora is the main town of each island in Greece. I went this summer in Amorgos, a little island in the east of Cyclades. It was for me a complete change of scene. You are in the middle of Mediterranean Sea, nothing looks like something you know. The nature, the sun, the people, the landscape, the goats, the food…everything is perfect. The place isn’t touristic at all. I went there because I had greek friends. It was really great to be far from occidental fast civilization… We had the chance to attend the traditional celebration in Hora. I loved that ! We got free food and drink, the atmosphere was very special, full of greek history and good mood. We learnt to dance their traditional steps with old local people. I advise everyone to try this!Hora is a very cute village, with very beautiful buildings and good places to visit. There are several great bars and restaurants to go too. Evidence that’s a very attractive place : some scenes of a French film were shot on this island and in Hora! (Le Grand Bleu – Luc Besson)No to be missed either : the monastery Chozoviotissa, build in the side of the mountain. (Sorry for my English, I'm Belgian.)
Really great town in the mainland. Too windy though and at nights you need for sure a jacket so as no to feel cold.
