the church is absoluytley amazing ! the pictures that cover the walls inside and outside are brathtaking . the cofage is a must and they say that on the days wen is closed the saint is traveling around the world to help the ones in need .
The St Denis cofage are near to the altar and is open to go and see the St Denis. They call him Traveler Saint, because in some days the cofage is not opening... because the Saint is gone to travel around
Such a lovely church. Visited on the festival day of St Denis. Nice to see so many people visiting on this day as a sign of respect.
Beautiful art and architecture. Colourul and vibrant designs inside and out. Free to enter. Worth a visit if passing.
A pure Greek style church with very decorated motifs inside. Nice location by the harbor, it is part of the small town's charm. worth a visit only if you are passing by Zakynthos town or have a real thing for old churches.
I don;t think one has to be religious to appreciate the art and the architecture of this church, the gilded mosaic on the front wall and the black marble columns and the paintings inside. Also, if you are religious, you might want to know that the Church hosts the body of St Dionysos. Don't worry about not being dressed properly- they hand out scarves for covering one's shoulders.
Though im not religeous i did visit and was taken aback by the whole experiance. The artwork and colour was amazing. You feel very much at ease here and if you are one who would apreciate giving a prayer then this is i think the perfect place to do this.
Visited Agios Dionisios church in Zante Town during our recent stay in Kalamaki...we did the local bus it Zante town which cost €1.60 each way.The church is absolutely stunning....gold, gold and more gold. There were scarves in a little room at the start for visitors to put over their bare shoulders for showing respect. You were able to light candle tapers for your own special intentions and were able to worship at the feet of St Denis. So glad we took the time to visit the church as it was so beautiful.
The island's most famous church should have paid more attention to what it is supposed to represent rather than being so fancy. Not my favorite.
This is definately worth half hour of your time to take in the breathtaking paint work and style of this church.
Beautifully decorated orthodox church. Located right between the port and the rest of Zakynthos Town, this place is definitely worth a stop to contemplate.
This is a very good example of orthodox church. There is a friendly man sitting in the front door to borrow scarf for women. Entrance is free of charge. Probably the nicest church on the island.
Beautiful you could spend an hour just sitting looking at wonderful interior and contemplating. Nothing to dislike.
You should go and see the difference how the orthodox church looks like and this one is really special. If you go 24.8. which is the Saint Dionysios names day there will be huge celebration in the port and all around, food, firework, dances, music etc.
This church is not open all the time. We visited several times and found it open on a Sunday morning after the service! Had some 'golifa', given out as a remembrance for a dead family member on the anniversary of their death! The crypt is at the front of the church! In gold! Felt a bit strange, but there was loads of locals praying etc. Great place to visit and if icons are your thing, it was awesome.
