The museum is a nice place to visit but do not expect it as Acropolis museum. Though everything is preserved nicely but a lot of restoring work is still going on. The museum is well organized, maintained, and informative. A stroll in the town market is nice and the port with yachts will keep you in happy mood. Enjoy a mug of beer on the port side cafes.
the museum is in a too old and small building, but the exhibits are spectacular. Anybody can understand a lot of things regarding the history of the town and the famous Eleusinian Mysteries. If the building was larger and new the rating should be 5!
As Greece is full of Archaeological Museums and it's really difficult (if not impossible) to decide which one's better it's hard to say that this one should be a main focus. The museum itself is great, very well organized, offers a great deal of information. However, it's somehow off the most popular paths and it'd take a full day to go and find it. (As it's not that easy to find ...). If you're into history and enjoy authentic, very well preserved sculptures, tools, pottery, etc. then I'd suggest to definitely visit Elusis.
Elefsina archaeological museum is a nice attraction, but it's not one of the best in Attica region. It reveals the history of Dimitra, the goddess of agriculture... the guide was amazing!
The archeological site is right in the city so parking could be a problem. The remains primarily consist of foundations and the bases of walls. The museum contains many interesting sculpture fragments. I'm sure the best pieces are in other museums. Watch out for the well worn slippery marble.
One has to say that the modern city of Elefsina is rather ugly, but the archaeological park and its museum are a must for anyone who ever was passionate for ancient Greek history. There is no point to resume the historical information about the mysteries of Eleusis, as plenty of material is available, but I highly recommend the place.
The Archeological Museum is situated inside the Archeological Park of Eleusina, in the middle of modern settlement. There is the same ticket to the both which is available at the entrance to the site, the car park nearby and the toilet facilities. Museum collection is rather large and contains interesting finds and details from area and different times and epochs. Among the museum artefacts the small statuette of Poseidon, Athena, Cybele and others. Notable in the area is the remains of the very large temple called Telesterion, right close to the Museum, remains of the Small and Large Propylees and Temple of Arthemis.
The Eleusis Archaelogical Museum is situated inside the site of Ancient Eleusis. In the ancient times, Eleusis (or Elefsina) was a very significant site, dedicated to the sacred beliefs regarding the after life. Every year, Athenians walked from downtown Athens towards Elefsina (20 km) to take part in the festivities. Today, the site of Eleusis includes the ruins of the market (shops, gates, etc) and the Museum - though small - has some beautiful items (statues, burial stuff, info about the area).
