I would recommend visiting on a sunny day not in the eating hours so that you can take pictures without crowds sitting in restaurants. Wouldn't go there alone after dark though!

Anafiotika are like a picturesque islander village in downtown Athens. You need about half an hour to take a quick stroll but it is highly recommended that you extend and enjoy.Anafiotika means "of Anafi island" and were built by skilled builders from the Cycladic island who had migrated in Athens around 1840-1850 to help rebuild the city. The style is obviously islander. Small whitewashed houses, very narrow backstreets, on the Acropolis hill just below the monument and very close to Plaka. While Plaka is picturesque too, Anafiotika is quite different. It is like being teleported to another time and place.Even Athenians from time to time visit that part of town for a stroll. There are cafes and restaurants nearby.

Fabulous, old neighbourhood, with “miniature” houses and streets so narrow you can’t even swing a cat around. Not that I’ve tried it. I couldn’t catch one.

It is a nice restaurant in a very nice location . The service is a bit slow and the food is average. It has a wifi and if the weather is good you can sit outsite as well.

A lovely location just under the Acropolis halfway up a hill in the Plaka. The restaurant was heaving both inside and out even though it was a cool January evening (they had outdoor heaters)and deservedly so. The food was delicious but be warned Greece seems to work on American portion sizes. Starters should be shared and main courses were very generous, we started with a chef's salad and calamari followed by a mixed grill and the local Greek specialities of meatballs. All delicious but we couldn't finish anything. Service is pleasant but slow due to the sheer number of diners but you can be sure you won't be rushed out even though there are people waiting. As for price, the meal was very reasonable... all of the above plus half a litre of red wine which was very quaffable came to 52 Euros.Next time we go to Athens we will be back

While visiting the city centre on foot, you will reach at this beautiful part and will enjoy this place very much as the old buildings and narrow small roads are still making this place as one of the most visited sites in the city centre.Strongly recommended to pay a visit and seat at any of cafes&tavernas to eat or drink something.

Beautiful little narrow streets on the way to the hill of Acropolis. It starts just after Plaka. Great views and cozy place to visit just before visiting the Acropolis. A total recommend. The best way to reach this place is to walk straight the Plaka towards the Acropolis without turning to any smaller streets.

19th century quaint white-washed houses on the north-east side of the Akropolis rocky hill . Take a stroll in this area to get the feeling of Athens before cement construction took over the city.

Very romantic. The little white traditional houses make the perfect scenery for a beautiful walk, a romantic date or anything really. Make sure to get your camera!

The first time I visited the restaurant, everything was very good, meaning good food, nice view, very reasonable prices, good wine and music. It was a relief to find a nice place in the historical centre of Athens, where you are not served food garbage for tourists. I visited the restaurant 4 more times just to get disappointed every time and to see how greed can destroy a nice place...they added too many tables even the waiters can’t get through, they changed the food and made it just awful, the prices went up while the quality fell too low..sad to see such a nice place in such a strategic part of the city being destroyed...Dear owners, it is one thing to bring new customers to your restaurant, but it is also one difficult thing to maintain them

i am a local staying in the center of athens. whenever i walk around plaka i always make sure i walk around anfiotika as well. its a pretty area with charming small streets (sokakia) and has an architectural interest as well...great for travellers o all ages; difficult to move around in a wheel chair.

An old city, in the city of Athens. First, people from Anafi island (Aegean Sea), stayed there and they keep the smel of the island alive with the small white houses. Explore this city near the Acrpolis and see what is the Greek hospitality, one more time. Pleople, is frendly there !

We found Anafiotika following Rick Steves' Athens City Walk. Is Very charming and picturesque little area, feels quite different from the rest of the city.

If you are an explorer type, walk and discover the old roads up hill, The architecture is from a different ear. Great place to take photos of Athens from above.
