Lots of collection pieces on display and very well laid out. You can get a combined ticker with the Museum of Byzantine Cuture for a reduced priced.
Wonderful to visit it and see some of the unique archeological pieces there The statues of classical period and helinistic Macedonian and roman period are unique
Our guide pretty much insisted we visit here. The collection is well displayed and well worth your time.
It is very big and very well presented. You need at least 2 hours. Also don't forget to take combine ticket with Byzantine Museum for save money and 1st Sunday of each month is free both of them :)
Wonderful collection. You can buy a combined ticket for the Byzantine museum for 8 euros. We unfortunately couldn't visit the Byzantine museum even though we paid. they are right next to each other.
Very nice place. Great Macedonian exhibits. Not very big, but well organized - somebody can learn things in it.
A nice museum to see. It was empty the day we were there but nice nonetheless. We made it through in about an hour and twenty minutes. The Gold in Macedonia section was wonderful and explained a lot of regional information. Restaurant downstairs was reasonably priced.
This is an excellent museum offering a variety of exhibits including excellent video presentations. The only grumble was that the staff seemed to regard me as inconvenience and one curator followed me through much of the museum making very loud footsteps and glares,
A must in the city where you can admire many artifacts from ancient Macedonia which was is and will always be GREEK.
NIe exhibits from the wolo region of Macedonia. Gives you a good impression of the different archeological sites in the region.
The museum has a nice collection of antiquities, both inside and out. Items are displayed with excellent lighting and there are English and Greek language labels for the displays. It is definitely a must see for Thessaloniki.
This is one museum where you will not see the top antiquities of ancient Greece but you will see significant and amazing objects (including a huge mosaic about Dionysus which found in a private villa in Thessaloniki,a cube-tomb with beautiful paintings inside it and much much more) through which describing the daily life of the people and their customs in ancient Macedonia. Most of them related to the ancient cemeteries of settlements in Macedonia. This is the second more important archaeological museum in Greece.
We visited this museum in January. Even if you don't enjoy visiting museums I am sure you will enjoy this one. Very easy layout. Lots of well lit information boards in big enough writing that I didn't need to be right on top of them to read them.Learnt a lot about Thessaloniki while in there.First Sunday in the month the Museums are free
Greece is a gorgeous country. It boasts a fantastic history. And the Greeks are probably one of the most friendly people in the world. But when it comes to civil servants, expect the worst so that you are not disappointed. When the museum says it closes at 16.00, it means that they shut the doors around 15.30-15.40 and that they do not let anyone in after 15.00. Do not expect a smile or an excuse, those people just want to make sure they are gone way before 16.00.
This wonderful museum is beautifully laid out, has excellent explicatory panels and its exhibits are priceless. It is of enormous importance to anyone interested in ancient history and archeology especially relevant to this area.It is very warm inside the museum and there is no official cloakroom with lockers - just a space where you can dump your coat and hope to find it later. The bookshop is poor which is a great pity. The same ticket gets you into the Byzantine Museum so hold on to it.
