This village is almost over-the-top charming: picturesque little houses and shops cheek by jowl running up the steep hillsides, with a river rushing through the town. There is an old castle up on the hillside, overlooking the town. It now is home to a youth hostel. This place is lovely and I hear does a first class Christmas market. The shops are a bit expensive, given the heavy tourist angle of this village, but it's a lovely spot to visit.

Quaint, picturesque and welcoming are all words that can be used to describe Monschau, but the reality of visiting this place is that your camera will be full by the time you leave. The unique architectural style highlighted by the light in the village, the river running rapidly through then centre of the village, the antique shops and cafes at every turn create a wonderfully welcoming atmosphere that invites you to stay. Well worth a visit!!

If you are looking for a quaint German village, this is the place. This is the village that theme parks and movie sets are trying to copy. Wonderful old architecture, lovely river and plenty of outdoor cafes and restaurants. It can be popular with tours for these reasons but I've seen it crowded. If you're wavering about a visit, definitely stop by for a day. Christmas market in the winter and wonderful sunny days in the summer.

I was told to visit this village and didn’t know what to expect. Once there I was amazed with the scene, architecture and the people. The village is surrounding by mountains and there is river cutting across it. The buildings are colourful and full of flowers. Every single shop or restaurant is in keeping with the local tradition. There are lots of walking trials to be done around the village and I wish I could stay there longer than a day. The people are so friendly and kind and that makes the place even better. The shops are very cheap and full of good things to be purchased specially leather and glass decorations. It is definitely a place to visit! Beautiful and amazing!

Never in a millions years would I have ended up here on my own, but the tour from Valkenburg (NL) to the Circuit at Spa-Francorchamp stopped here this morning for a few hours. How beautiful and how blissful! Really we just wandered the town, climbing to the Burg (which was closed) and puttering through the small market. Up and down the main street were happy people and music. The summer music festival was rehearsing (which is why the Burg was off-limits), and so there was music from the Burg (Mozart opera), an orchestra rehearsing in a church just off the main street (Fledermaus Overture), a choir rehearsing near the main street, and a lovely little belled clock playing Mozart and Beethoven on the hour. All this music wafting over this lovely valley. Eventually we just put ourselves down in a cafe and enjoyed coffee, a light lunch, and apfelkuchen. What a treat the morning was, and how unexpected!Oh, and for your comfort, there are good WC's at each of the main parking lots outside the village. No coin needed for the facilities! May I also recommend you park outside and don't try to drive in!

We were in Deventer, Netherland and after knowing how pretty Monschau is through the web, I decide to drive 3 hrs there. It's beautiful and the most beautiful German town I've been to so far. We took many beautiful pictures and though the town is not big, you're totally absorbed by it's charm. Food is good too and I promise if I visit Germany again, I will spend several nights there and use it as a base to explore other areas.

Have just returned from 5 days in Monschau in the German Eiful. So pretty, and historic it takes your breath away. The locals are so friendly and the cakes are to die for. There was a truly great brass band playing in the square surrounded by tables with sunshades over them and many people sitting eating and drinking. It is also good for halloween and the xmas markets.

Just over the border from Belgium in to Germany you will find this extraordinary hidden little village. So picturesque. Delightful shops at affordable prices. Quite a few antique shops too. Lovely eating places, a museum, a river. Could spend a whole day there. A little disappointed we could find a guide book on the village as I would have liked to have known more.

The village was quaint and very interesting. It seemed familiar and have realized if you have been to Bush Gardens or Disney you wonder if this wasn't the town that they were recreating. We found an antique/gift shop nice steins and a beautiful piece of purple glass with gold inlay quite unusual. The lady was quite delightful and made my visit memorable. Went in the Red House but didn't take the tour I wish I had. It would have been nice to hear the history of the textile industry that basically made this town and to see the antiques that were in their collection.

This village, was one of the places we visited, went on a coach trip, stopped at Valdenburg, then on to see Floriade 2012 for the day, which was very nice. Monschau, I found that there was so much to see, sad about the castle, was closed, glass factory was great to see.

Love to go here and bring friends! Its a lovely town that has plenty to see and do! It is down in a valley with a castle and ruins above! It is open on Sundays too. We park at the glass factory and walk into town. Plenty of stores to shop in to get some of the best local products......mustard that is Amazing!, a gourmet store with homemade liquor and sausage, antique and jewelry stores....and so much more. Nice place to get a coffee or a full meal. Plenty of Apple strudel to go around! The Christmas market is one of our favorites! In the center of the town is a great tourist information center. Currently, there is construction going on so some of the streets are a bit narrow to walk down. Also, don't forget the camera plenty of lovely spots for pictures.

Kuieren door de smalle straatjes is de moeite waard. Kleine winkeltjes maken het gezellig. Voldoende eetgelegenheden. Het stromend water doorheen het stadje brengt rust met zich.
