Behind the castle is the botanic garden. Not big, but a very relaxing walk for about an hour (including visiting the glasshouses)
This garden is really nice for a walk, free entry. Lots of different plants, flowers, herbs to see. We visited this garden in autumn but it's better in spring/summer.
I love this garden. I might be biased because Iove so close, but I visit it monthly at least! Free admission, it houses some small greenhouses, a very small carnivorous plant collection, a perfumed garden, herb garden and veggie garden as well as a large lake and woodland designed areas. Really fantastic. There is a cafe just outside.
We stumbled upon this place, and I am glad we did. It was truly amazing. They had quite the collection. They had redwood trees, sequoias, cacti of all varieties, palm trees, mosses of all types, lily pads, carnivorous plants, a fantastic aromatic herb garden. I could have stayed much, much longer. It was truly amazing. I'm not typically a botanical garden guy, but this was really something.
The botanical garden behind the Schloss is open to the public despite being part of the university and well worth a visit. Simply perfect for a relaxing hour or two.
This is in back of the Schloss-herb garden/tropical sections/forest/paths/clean and free bathrooms!-wandering paths through rocks with wild flowers-Japanese style-huge trees, a bamboo forest, a fern area-benches, a lake, all you could want for a spell of relaxing.
Great place to have lunch. Great view of the garden. Nice beers and good menu. I tasted the sausage with fries. So good.
The "Schlossgarten" in which the botanical garden is located is quite nice. However, the botanical garden itself is rather small. Its Ok, but I have seen nice ones.
Even on a cold spring day there was enough here to keep us interested & there are hot houses as well.
We visited in february 2014.It is a very peaceful garden. The greenhouses is very nice but not all can be visited. This is a good weather option in spring or summer, and it's free.
I live just by the Botanical Garden and it's always a pleasure to go take a walk there and discover new plants. And it's free!
An amazing sight. Truly breathtaking and it wonderfully maintained. I recommend it to anyone who visits Muenster.
Having lived in Münster for 4 years, I had not visitted this attraction until my last trip back in September, and I was shocked at how peaceful and beautiful the gardens were. Being a native Kiwi, I loved that they had a New Zealand and Australian section of plants and also the tropical section inside the glasshouse was lovely. Next time I will take a book and curl up on a bench in the sun!
Not only the Botanical Garden, Münster has many things that make this city loveable and liveable. We can see buildings of houses, churches or squares with their garden in well treated here, full of historic and cultural. At the city center we can see the old market Prinzipalmarkt, where the rows of houses with their gabled fronts and covered walkways have been dominant. This makes possible to shop under the arcades whatever the weather, even maybe since thousands of years.Furthermore, Münster always be associated with the peace of Westphalia which was announce in 1648, officially ended the thirty years' war. The Historic Town Hall, as the landmark of Munster keeps the portraits of the peace negotiations inside and preserved in its original form. We can also hear the story inside the hall with a little payment.Münster is also a bicycle city. So many people ride on their bikes, even there is Germany’s largest bicycle park at the main station with thousands parking spaces completed with a bike wash and offers a repair service. Bicycles, has made the cityscape characterised and today Münster is known as the bicycle capital of Germany. There is a lot to discover in Münster . I enjoyed the beauty and green oases of this city by walking a whole work day, around nine to five. It's really a historical city, where people can live in an environmentally aware atmosphere.
A warm Sunday afternoon led me to a stroll round Munster which in turn led me to this lovely botanical garden. Plenty of peace and quiet, with a big herb garden in the middle. There is a restaurant in the middle. The kitchen is closed on Sundays but they do a lovely buffet meal and cold drink for about 7 euros instead. They also serve cakes and drinks for those who don't want to eat a meal. Recommended.
