I've seen many parks and gardens around the world, but none can compare with Rheinaue in Bonn. It offers numerous sights and beautiful scenery all over its 160ha, and at any season. Just to pick out one highlight: one should really try to make it to the "Rhein in Flammen" event on the 1st saturday in May - unforgettable, for sure!

This wonderful park is the result of a National Garden Show that took place in Bonn in 1979. Today, it is a huge, green refuge from hectic day-to-day activities. A leisurely stroll around the entire park takes a good 1 1/2 - 2 hours. Although it's easy to get lost in, it is also easy to find your way back again, with the Rhine bordering on the east, the Post Tower to the north and the baseball fields to the south. Things to look out for year round: Japanese Garden, Redwood tree cross-section, numerous playgrounds, half-pipe, garden for the blind, waterfall. In the summer: pond for model boat enthusiasts (Sundays are the best time for this), bee house, rose garden, paddle and row boats and, of course, 2 beer gardens. In August, one of the beer gardens provides live music every night. Throughout the summer, various events also take place in the park, including a beer festival, hot-air balloon festival and a huge flea market every 3rd Saturday of the month, Apr.-Oct. As someone who lives a 5 minute walk away from the park, I can highly recommend it.

This large park on the Rhine bank is perfect for a run, a bicycle tour, a picnic or just a walk. You can also rent a boat there.

It is the me of the best places to visit in Bonn. Everything around is completely quite, the forest, the lakes, the Japanese garden. I consider this place wonderful, perfecto to take a little relax, like reading, writing and or simply taking a little nap around nature. 100% Recommend

A great park to relax after a long visit of Bonn. You could find a lot of activities on the park for the children or adult.

A lot of space to have nice walks. Some cafes are spread over the park. One of my favorite places to have a walk in bonn next to the river.

This is probably the nicest city park I've ever seen! First, it's massive. So if you like to bike or rollerblade or run, you can go a long way never retracing your path. You can rent paddle boats to take around the lake in the park. The great meadow is a massive, beautiful grassy area that hosts festivals and lots of fun events. I can't wait to return and spend more time exploring what else this park has to offer!

Great space for children to run around and for family barbecues. Beautiful views of the Rhine river. There is a beer garden, restaurant and snack kiosk there, but given that it is a large park, but must find your way to the right places to find the F&B outlets. The park often is the grounds for festivals, flea markets and outdoor concerts.I was there on a day when they were having a hot air balloon festival and we got to watch hot air balloons take off.You can read more on my blog: http://lifeasitisbeautiful.blogspot.sg/2014/06/a-bonn-bonn-walk-in-park.html

It is a very well kept park and massive at that. A bit away from the centre so get ready for a long walk before getting there, you can just follow the river from old town and you can't miss it. But don't do what I did, don't expect to buy food there... I was starving! Fancied a picnic, and since we were in a hotel there wasn't really a fridge I could rummage so went off thinking I can surely buy some food there. Nope. There is plenty of lovely picnic and bbq areas, really well thought, if only you could buy some to enjoy. At the end I've found a little stall with some fast food, but the seller was so rude and abrupt, as hungry as we were, we just decided we might as well last 15min more and get something in a local restaurant.

This park is very big, and it's right next to the Rhine (Rheinaue means something like Rhine Meadow). You can cycle through it or walk through it. On many days it's very empty and so it's a good place to have peace and quiet, but they also have a lot of activities which are nice for children, and there are a few play parks. There are a couple of restaurants where you can sit outside or inside, a lake where you can hire different types of boats (they are for four people). The Japanese garden is a relic from the Bundesgartenschau in 1979, It's a nice, peaceful place with small lakes with fishes and a little waterfall and beautiful trees. Sometimes they have festivals in the centre of the Rheinaue, or there are flea markets or open air concerts. At the southernmost end there are Baseball fields, which are a relic from the time when the Americans were stationed in Bonn. They still have baseball games there a few times a year. We go there mainly for the hotdogs and the hamburgers and the atmosphere. If you like wide open spaces, and if you like grass, trees and lakes, it's the place to go!

This place is the green lung from bonn, founded in the 80 's as an exhibition for the german Bundesgartenschau. Nowadays it is a nice place to wander around , for relaxing, barbequeing with friends. It become more visitors in may when a famous festival is celebrated called "Rhein in Flammen" whereas it is a good place to see the fireworks. Another attraction called "bear fare" is even nice to come to the Rheinaue- it looks like a smaller version of the oktoberfest.

Here you will find big ponds where you can tour with boats ,a little japanese park to walk around, a nice "Biergarten" to sit in the sun an chill, places to grill and pick-nick... lots of flowers and the cherry blossom was just awesome at this time of the year!

I walked through this park several times on my visit to Bonn and have always found it to be a place of relaxation and beauty. The many trees and the water fall including the Japanese Garden you can visit here provide for a nice park experience even in the winter months. There are odd looking ducks here, but I was later told that they were purchased for the park from Egypt, so that's a nice thing to see. The swans that swim on the lakes are also very beautiful and the fast connection to the Rhine is very valuable.
