This is one of the best zoo's I have visited in years my grandaughter and I spent a wonderful day going around everything. Highly recommended
went to the zoo. it was 17.50 euros to get in but is well worth the money. they have a restaurant a couple of small cafes on the grounds. spent six hours in the zoo and still did not see everything. the aquarium is amazing too. a place to visit
The total visit took about 3.5 hours to complete. Since we visited on a sunny Sunday, the zoo was filled with families, which is mostly what the place is built for. Some animals were not available to see, but overall there's a good and quite comprehensive variety of species. The aquarium is less interesting so you're not missing much if you fail to visit that section. One thing we would have liked to see as tourists was the presence of more signage and explanations in English - which are nowhere to be found, so we could not read about each animal we were seeing.
Animals look clean and healthy. Nice walk in a sunny day.there is parking nearby. Prepare euro coins.
Just north of the city you will find Koln zoo. One of Germany's oldest zoos and well worth the visit. Animals all seem happy and have plenty of space to roam about it. A great way to spend a cold, rainy afternoon in Koln with the kids.
I spent half a day at the Cologne Zoo. Right after the entry a list of tasks was given to us, which was good fun. The kids had to answer different questions about animals. So you had to find the animals, read about them or find the answer by looking at them and then answer the question. Very entertaining. I don't normally like zoos, but the animals looked well cared for and the paths were clean. The staff was very friendly as well. I would go again.
What a nice zoo. It is easily walkable. You can rent wagons for your little guys, and it has a good selection of animals. The playgrounds there were awesome. I had to pry my children off of them. It is easily accessible by metro. An adult ticket is 17.50 for the zoo and aquarium. We did not have time to see the aquarium though.
Went to zoo to fill in a couple of hours. Ended being there all day on a cold day, but saw all the animals.Felt some areas needed attention and cleaning, but all in all a pleasant visit. Imagine in the summer it will be busy. Not too many visitors during our visit. Most eateries were closed also. Great sea lion feeding time. Very entertaining. Try not to miss it.
We had a great day at Koelner Zoo there was a huge variety of animals to see and it was nice to know they are well looked after with clean and spacious exhibits replicating their natural habitat. My favourites were the elephants, giraffes and the penguins. We took our own food for lunch and there were lots of places to sit and enjoy a picnic and have a rest on the bench. We also checked out the Aquarian park of the zoo which was also pretty impressive. For the price of entry it was great how many animals they have and what you get for your money. We enjoyed how the exhibits told you what animals were in their with a profile of the name, where they came from and their story. When visiting koln on a holiday like us, this is a must go to attraction for sure.
I had a nice afternoon but if you have been to the san diego zoo in california, it comes a close second. Enjoyed the elephants, tigers and cheetah. It wasnt very crowded being off season so it was good. A great way to spend a sunny afternoon.
We visited Cologne Zoo on our last day of our trip. It's a nice zoo with some cool animals (Make sure to check out the elephants! Can't compete with the Sydney Zoo but we had a fun day. Not a must when in Cologne but nice to fill a day, or a few hours. Prices are reasonable.
Cologne Zoo has to be one of the best in Europe!, The Zoo gardens are well maintained and spotless with a great selection of the more unusual animals no longer found in smaller zoos, Hippopotamus, Tigers, Orangutans , A huge herd of Asian elephants. (the Elephant house has to be seen to be believed!).I recommend: In the summer they have a bird of prey (Raptor) show.... great for all the family. The food is ok, usual German fare, but you can take your own, and picnic places are scattered around the zoo. Perfect if your budgeting with a family. If you like Zoos then do not miss out on this one, as it really is special. The Aquarium is not so impressive, where they lack in this field they excel in the main gardens.
we visited the big berlin zoo, and also the zoo in arnhem, and we found the koelner zoo comparable to these. the berlin zoo is much bigger, but the variety seems more in this zoo.we went on a cold winter day, so lot of animals were inside. plus the nameplates describing animlas were only in german, which was a bit disappointing.
We Visited the Koelner Zoo to have a quick change from the Christmas markets and busy shopping streets the week of Christmas. As big animal lovers who have been to many zoos we wasn't expecting much as it is right in the inner city, however we was pleasantly surprised by the size of the zoo.As it was the winter a few of the animals where not about - mainly the bears - however there was still a wide range of enclosures, many with no glass so you get a better view and pictures. The Tigers, Cheetahs and Lions are in enclosures such as these. We also enjoyed the gorilla enclosure which is inside and has a large family.Overall we spent a brilliant few hours at the zoo despite the cold weather and would recommend to anyone, especially given it is only 14Euro to buy a ticket!!
Not hte most interesting zoo I've ever seen(this is the one in Rotterdam,in my case) but worth to visit, for sure. You can easily spend here at least a half a day. There are lots of animals, children playgrounds, a few restaurants so you have all you need for a pleasant day.I visited it in december but I think in summer days it looks much more better. In winter many animals are placed indoor and they not look very happy...In the ticket price is included an aquarium, too.
