This old town house have been turn into library. There is an old bible written in greek. There's some books and history inside too, but I am not sure if we can borrow the books as i don't ask that to the librarian.
Stumbled across this beautiful building facade. Very unique. Shops & restaurants nearby. Was not clear if you could go into building or what the significance of it was, but sure was pretty.
A very pretty historic town to walk around in. The Town Hall is decorative and worth a photo. We didn't go in. The streets are lined with pretty shops and restaurants. Perfect place to sit by the harbor in a nice restaurant for lunch.Biggest surprise in this town.......a Giant Sequoia from California! I didn't think they grew anywhere else . Obviously, this one was brought here but seems to be doing fine.Cute town and worth a stop.
It stood here at the old town center and its square attracts tourists as well as locals for food and shopping.
There are lots of pretty painted town halls with step gables and so forth in the Alsace, Schwarzwald, Bavaria and Switzerland. And lo and behold, this is one of them. Very pretty and photogenic though.
With all the painted houses the old city is charming and worth a few hours of walking around. Along the promenade and along the older streets.
I visited Lindau with family on a Thursday in September. We did not go into the old town hall (not even sure if you can) but were able to view it from both the front and back. Very decorative and highly recommended.
the building itself tells everthing. the town hall is rich in history and is one of the crowning glory of the town. if you opted for a simple yet creative souviner, a shot tat the town hall is the perfect alternative.
Lindau at east part of Lake Constance (Bodensee) is lovely tourit town on island. Many shops, historic buildings, caffes and restaurants (mostly in pictures harbour), nice park, boat trips, ... make this town must visit when being near.
Lindau is a tranquil little place well worth a visit. The Rathaus is impressive from front and back. Plenty of cafes and individual little shops full of gift ideas. Lovely just to sit on a bench looking onto Lake Constance, enjoying the peaceful atmosphere.
This is a review for the whole area i suppose. Like most reviews say, don't drive. We stayed in nonnenhorn, a 15 minute bike (i think) to the Island. That's your best bet if you're close. Otherwise, park off the island and walk over on the bridge. The island is small enough to walk the entire thing. We had a map that pointed out the churches/town hall/etc. that was helpful so we were not wasting our time. Our favorite part was the lighthouse/harbor area. Watching the ducks and boats were entertaining, as well as live music from one of the restaurants. It was a day trip that had plenty of sitting and relaxing. There are areas for picnicking if you want as well.
Lindau island is not traffic friendly. If you take a car you will be frustrated,Park up and arrive in style on the boat or train.Lindau is not merely a tourist trap, and well worth a day.
This is one of the prettiest towns on the Bodensee and worth the time investment. The Town Hall is quite unique and especially charming.
Because no attraction for the island of Lindau as a whole is listed, we file this review under the old town hall. All of Lindau Insel is indeed very attractive and well preserved but the traffic hassle required both to get onto the island and then leave it is NOT at all worth the effort. We had seen the horrific traffic jams in the warm summer months and decided to wait until winter to visit. On a Monday in December (on a day with no Christmas market either) it took us about 40 minutes to arrive on the island. What a mess! Then we walked around the island and we said yes it's very pretty but not worth the effort, hassle, frustration and waste of time to get there. When we decided to leave, we encountered the same hassle to leave the island. We had visted many of the other small villages on the German side of the Bodensee and we cannot understand why anyone would subject themselves to such a hassle to come to Lindau. Do yourself a favour and visit Wasserburg, Meersburg or other small town and skip Lindau.Traffic Hell!
I visited Lindau with family on a Thursday in September. We did not go into the old town hall (not even sure if you can) but were able to view it from both the front and back. Very decorative and certainly worth a picture or two when passing by on a stroll through Lindau.
