rotteln castle

I love old castles and Rottein is perched on a hill overlooking Lorrach and the surrounding area. There were no signs directing me the way as I arrived at Lorrach railway station from Basel so had to rely on asking locals which wasn't easy as it was raining and most people were indoors. I knew it was north west so I walked out of the station to Haagener Strasse then along that road through the park, across the covered bridge where I turned right then forked left to a main road and village. I took first left into a cul de sac where there was a footpath with another footpath going left up through the woods to the castle (45 mins walk from town). It was only 2 Euros entry but I paid in Swiss francs. It is all ruins but very interesting and at the top of one of the towers are great views of the surrounding area. They give you a leaflet explaining what the different parts of the castle are and there is a nice little museum next to the ticket booth that is worth a look. A great day excursion from Basel as only less than 30 mins on the train.

der Name der Spornburg gab der Weiler Rötteln, im Volksmund "das Röttler Schloss" welches im Ortsteil Haagen der Gemeinde Lörrach liegt ist eine Burg mit zwei grossen Wehrtürmen. Seit dem 19. Jahrhundert wird gegen den stetigen Verfall ständig renoviert und konserviert. Eine schöne Aussicht geniesst wer die Burg erklimmt.

Se parquet en bas puis remonter la route. Après le pont-levis continue tous droit.Pour moins de 10€ Sortie sympa pour la vue, la marche et les amoureux des pierres.Attention aucun mobilier ni même de salle a visité.
