A wonderful museum in a small town. Comprised of 3 buildings on multiple (7?) levels, there was too much to take in during our 2 hour visit. We should have gone earlier in the day to have more time. No English explanations which is what keeps the review from being 5 stars.
Always a great visit but, until May 2015, it is hosting great works of modern art on loan from the Berlin National Gallery (that is currently under refurbishment).Entrance is free.
I saw the travelling exhibit "Moderne Zeiten" - it will be at the Würth through 1 May2015. Admission is free, museum texts are in English and German, and there is a comprehensive audio guide (6 Euros). The museum is across the river from the picturesque old town center of Schwäbish Hall, and can be reached by foot via a pedestrian bridge.
we visited this museum on our way North and what a find it was. Free admission, very nice cafe and museum store (always a bonus) and a spectacular view from the terrace towards the city of Schwabisch Hall (which is a great place to explore, especially the square with the monumental steps up to the church). And of course the art is great, too, or at least it was when we were there. But even if the show doesn't do it for you, all the other things might.
I always say I don't like modern art, but this place was truly amazing. The collection had something to offer everyone, and was presented in a bright, modern setting. My biggest regret from visiting Germany was not spending more time here
We had never heard of this museum but thought it was one of the high points of our trip to Germany. really enjoyed it. Mostly modern art, it is very nicely presented. Be sure to ask directions to the sister museum, the Johanniterkirche just down the street which focuses on incredible medieval art. It is also free.
Kunsthalle Würth Museum is really worth the visit when you´re in Schwäbish Hall. Exhibitions change every few months; you can read more about it on their website about what´s currently showing; and the best thing is that it´s a free entry. There are also guides available, as well as electronic audioguides (€6).I was delighted to see painings of Frida Kahlo in the exhibition Mexicanidad in 2012; such a rare opportunity to have seen paintings as this in one place. (Also - for free.) Mexicanidad exhibition is, unfortunately, over and it was my favorite, but every other exhibition I saw there was interesting and exciting in its way. There is a small bar in the building, just before you get inside of the gallery and at the very entrance is a small shop where you can buy books and other souvenirs from current and past exhibitions. Staff is always pleasant and helpful. This modern building also offers a great view on this old town and the way to and from (don´t walk the same way twice:)) the gallery is nice because of the small streets and pictoresque altbau houses. I highly recommend the visit, especially if you love interesting exhibitions.
The Kunsthalle exhibits an impressing number of paintings, graphic art and scultures belonging to the more than 16.000 pieces of art in the Würth collection. Lots of interesting art displayed, and they also do special exhibitions. If you are in this beautiful city, take the time to pay this nice museum a visit.
We had a great time on a lazy Sunday walking through the museum. The architecture of the building is as interesting as the art. I know that the artists are some of the anchors of German art - but I am not educated enough to tell you why the works are important. Very nice location. lovely entryway. The people were very nice.
We have frequebtly visited this museum for its excellent free modern art exhibitions. What I find extremely attractive about the museum is that it is a modern building that blends in nicely with the excellent oldtown and the contrast is lovely. A visit for us is always a pleasant blend of the modern art works with the contrasting medieval oldtown, the juxtaposition is interesting and excellent. (For me, sights that effectively combine the present with the past are Germany's most enjoyable.) And if time allows, a visit to the more than excellent unique Grosscomburg Monastery which can be seen from the museum's terrace lying to its east.
Dix, Grosz, Kirchner u.v.a.m.
