I know this is but a brief comment, but I wanted to be to the point. I have visited there over many years and have seen a steady deterioration, not in the material quality of the place itself, but of the clientele, and therefore of the overall experience. This applies not only to the people going in but also to those hovering around outside the doors. (I love to dress formally and tastefully and love the experience of being among others who do the same, and who therefore share at least some of my values, perhaps if only the material ones.) But it is my overall impression that the standards this institution used to have have been relaxed to the point that it is no longer a unique experience among the classic casinos - and it used to be a model for them all. Now, I may appear to be exaggerating, especially when considering any comparison to the carnival casinos in other places, but it makes a difference when being able to judge a place over many years, and not based simply on one experience. I know how it used to be. And also, I'm not a prudish dresser - just the opposite; but notice that I used the word "tasteful".This is not meant to be critical of any other establishments in the Kurhaus, or of its value as a place of meeting and culture.
Of course , the casino is always interesting visit ! Specialy for essayist writer and aesthete ! But most know it is for money loss rather gain , unless you are a blunt and believe (Monte Carlo story with Vitorio de Sicka now more then ever this lovely places are for washing black money ! but then the casino needs to survive too ! So take it or live it !
Worth the visit! When you're inside it's like you are gambling in Versailles. Roulette, poker and black jack........nicely dressed, the old fashion way. No jeans and no sneakers )))) We also had dinner in the restaurant inside the casino. Starters not so good, but good maincourse and off course great German wines!
It was fun to dress up and visit the beautiful casino while in Baden-Baden. There is a very low key vibe and formal feel to the place. Not stuffy exactly - but close. The $5 entry fee is worth it but, unless you're a committed gambler, you probably won't stay long. Decent martinis in the bar.
We did the tour of the casino, because we wanted to see what it looked like inside and we didn't have to right clothes to actually go gamble at night. I had read other reviewers that said their tour was partly in English, but our tour was completely in German. It was still neat to see the inside, and we were able to take pictures. It'd recommend the tour, but just don't expect English.
This casino is definitely different from others be been too. After reading reviews we were worried they wouldn't let us in as we hadn't planned any formal clothes. But a jumper dress and boots seemed to be ok. My hubby had a casual jacket and shirt with timberland boots and also managed to get in. Although note that we went quite early at 6pm so that may be the reason they were flexible. We popped out for dinner and returned at 9pm on Saturday night to find it in full force. All the tables were full and had a great buzz. Only concern was the black jack and poker table were in smoking room so we came back smelling of it. The casino is beautiful and prob worth just the visit for the architecture but after €200 loss still thought it was worthwhile. Would go again.
Visiting Casino Baden-Baden was a part of our weekly trip organized by Grohe, Germany. To visit the place you need to carry Passport. This is one of the few Casinos in Europe. People come here to spend time and try their luck.
No American has ever been to a casino like this. First of all, jackets are required for gentlemen. The atmosphere is quiet and refined. There is red damask on the walls and more crystal chandeliers than I could count. Don't miss the chance to be in your own James Bond movie for an evening.
A must see! Beautiful casino with a great bar and dining area. Enjoyed playing a few rounds of roulette. Took a picture in lobby with horse statue.
I am fine with not having tons of people and clanging bells from slots on the casino floor. But we were there on a weeknight in September, and the place was dead. The rooms are gorgeous. But come on the weekends or in season.
Itt is a stunning building. I only took the guided tour, but I guess the place really comes alive at night when the tables are open. If you want to go remember gents need a jacket and tie and women should be "appropriately" dressed with shoes (no trainers or fli flops.
Obviously Baden Baden is famous, among other things, for its casino. If you want to gamble or meander in the main casino flow. Bring a tux or a good looking suit. Security won't let anyone that isnt suitably dress to rub shoulders with millionaires in otherwise. Instead you will be directed to the basement gambling area that has slot machines and electronic roulette. All of which is incredibly underwhelming and very unJames Bond like
Not only for gambling but also to see the interior and the ambiance.Have a drink at the bar or enjoy the restaurant. You have to pay entrance fee and be properly dressed, also you hv to show your ID when entering. The nightclub Bernstein inside must be very good and fancy friends of mine told me-but it's only on the weekends and late night.
many times was in baden-baden but this was the first time we visit the casino wich it looks very elegant inside a lot of paintures and it shows how rich people use to spend the time in past and even now
Beautiful casino! You can tour through it at 10am, before it opens for gambling. Worth the time and euro to tour through. Our tour guide spoke English...always a bonus! :)
