The old town is quite small so it really doesn't take that long. You'd have to stretch it out to make it last half a day.
It was a quiet weekend day that we walked through, so many of the shops were closed, but there were still cafes open. Lots of people walking and browsing, and taking in history. Its beautiful!
There was a Christmas festival while we visited, with lots of cool booths and attractions. The old town here has ancient buildings, trendy shops and restaurants. It was a delight to visit.
Nice old town near the Harbour! the streets of the old town are full of magazines and restaurants. Great architecture! The building are coloured! You can easily get to the old plan of the city near the gorgeous church! It has a beautiful fountain!
We spent a few hours here at the end of a day exploring northeastern Switzerland and enjoyed discovering the fairytale-like streets and alleyways. A very charming place and one of the prettiest in Germany.
Walk the cobbled streets of the old town & let your mind wander back centuries. Beautiful, clean & very well maintained old town.Stop for a coffee & just soak up the atmosphere or visit some or all of the many attractions including the museum & historic cathedral......
Its a nice town to spend few hours in there, the old town is full of shops, bars and restaurants. The building are coloured in beautiful colours. It has a beautiful fountain and architecture.
We stayed in central location to make strolling through old town easy and enjoyable. We even ate at a local favorite with the help of a waitress who could translate the menu so we could order local fare
It’s really nice to walk around the Konstanz Old Town. There are so many historic buildings, the Cathedral as well as other old church’s, the University, bars/clubs, restaurants, museums, shops and if you are lucky you will hopefully catch some of the street musicians and performers displaying their skills for change. It’s easy to just to walk around the old town and look at the shops and businesses, but make sure to look up at the buildings and read the signs and markers that explain some of their history. Take a walk into the churches (specially the cathedral stairs up to the tower) and check out the weekly markets. There are some very nice restaurants around the old town and many offer very good food for an exceptionally reasonable price. The one thing I think they could improve would be to have more explanations in English at some of the churches, museums and some of the historical markers around the town.
Konstanz, in Germany, has an old town worth a visit. It is compact and invite us to walk. It is full of history with ancient houses, churches, interesting museums, squares, fountains, restaurants, bars and shops. The old theater, the old towers, the Konzil building, the main church, narrow charming and cozy streets, good and diverse examples of the german architecture… you name it. Everything within a short walk. I stayed in a hotel close to the old center and I would recommend to do that, if you like to walk and appreciate the beauty of an old European town. There are many good options for lunch, so it´s a special area to spend a day or more.
Konstanz was not bombed in the second world war because it was right next to the Swiss border, so in the old town there are some interesting decorated houses , with interesting pictures on the outside , as well as some fine churches such as the Trinity Church. The pedestrian precinct has a wide choice of reasonably priced shops and cafes
We took a substantial amount of photos of the old buildings in Konstanz as we were struck by the impressive architecture, upkeep and presentation of centuries' old buildings.
It's a quintessential European old town with cobble stone roads and paths encaged by old buildings, some going back over 800 years. There are lots of restaurants dotted all over the place. Our favorite is Karma, which offers Indian, Thai and Malaysian cooking. It's similar to old towns all over Europe, albeit with a German touch, which is a complement. As a lot of Swiss cross over the border for cheaper shopping and dining it is packed full of Swiss Germans on the weekends. What amazes me is that Switzerland also has it's fair share of attractive old towns and decent enough waterfronts, however, they cannot offer the likes of what Konstanz has. Hospitality comes from the heart, when you don't have it, you don't have it.This is a place I enjoy and that I frequent every few months.
Some lovely old buildings and mostly in very good condition make this a town worth walking around. It's not large and is easy to navigate.
