First mentioned in 1255 when Abbey Malmedy leased out a forrest to the order in "Namendeth". The Cistercian Monastery "zu Namendel" (or “zu Namende") had in 1367 a seal with the inscription: "SIGILLUM CONVENTUS NAMENDYENSIS" (seal of Namedyer agreement). The Convention was under the supervision of the Abbots of Himmerod and most likely had only a few members and consisted largely of civil misses. After a 300-year tradition, due to the tense economic situation, the monastery had to be dissolved in 1560. The last Abbess, Hildegard von Hausmann (1518-1562), did not appoint any novices past 1553 thus the monastic life came to a halt by 1558. Simultanious her brother Anton Hausmann (Huysmann) had the Castle built. When the monastery was inhabited the Andernach Council asked the Cologne elector in 1568 if they could use the building, 1573 the monastery was closed down.
