It was a little tough to do in my shoes... But you can do it. Wasn't a lot of snow, but we did it in January with a baby stapped to out back! Haha. A good steep workout! Worth the view and of course just being able to see a 800 year old castle! Ha. Make sure your address is right tho! The one on trip advisor was NoT right!
Beautiful views and more than worth the climb(if you decide not to drive up). Don't skip this if you're stationed nearby; an excellent historical site, and don't forget the camera.
Well worth the trek up the hill! Something to do whilst you're in Kaiserslautern. I rather enjoyed it!
My children grew up visiting this wonderful Castle ruin! The walk to it is fabulous, regardless of the season. My children were knights and princesses when they visited. You can climb through the ruins, walk around it, and the views are fabulous! A must see for families!
The uphill hike is a bit steep, but worth the trip -- even in the rain :). Interesting ruins ... nice area. No fee. Some nice views, too. Didn't tour the interior the castle.
Very close to Voegelweh/Kaiserslautern area. Nice castle remains but be prepared for a steep walk up the hill.
Fabulous evening visiting Burg Hohenzoellern Castle for an english version of Romeo and Juliet. Was not able to take the tour of the Castle but enjoyed an excellent dinner before sitting in the courtyard with several hundred visitors to see the play.Setting is unbelievable and review of the web site shows many more activities worth visiting this 1000 year old castle
We had a pleasant walk up to the Burg one day. It was raining but still nice. There really isn't that much to see of the castle itself but the surrounding views are nice. There are some picnic tables at the top, so it would be a nice lunch visit.
for a friendly atmosphere, mix of different customers from all walks of life, this is the place to be.
One of my favorite things that I did while I was in Germany was go to this castle. You have to walk up a hill to get to the ruins but the view is well worth it. It is also free. We went inn January and there was nothing going on and we were the only people there which was even better. It was an overall neat experience.
This is a very easy castle ruin to access. They have many events scheduled around the ruin annually. It is a very nice backdrop if you'd like to have family photos taken
This castle is just a short trek up a hill,, has no admission cost and offers a fantastic view of the village below and surrounding mountains. The hotel at the bottom of the hill also offers great German fare in an authentic setting. It might prove a bit difficult to push a stroller or wheelchair up to it and be sure to take a bottle of water or something to drink.
Nice local castle. Overlooks a beautiful view of Landstuhl. Has a wonderful little restaurant you can stop for a great glass of wine or a nice streudel and coffee. Worth stoping to do a little tourism at leisure.
Easy to find off hwy 270; as you enter the town of Hohenecken, keep your eyes open for the brown Burg Hohenecken signs. You'll turn left if you are heading south, away from the Vogelweh area. When you drive into town, use a very nice Gasthaus, with fountain out front and many stone flower boxes--a very unique place in town--as a landmark to know where to turn. You will take the turn just past that place, and park just down the hill from the large church in town. Walk up the path and admire the church and chapel just across from it; keep trekking up the hill about a quarter mile to the ruin. The grounds of the ruin are kept very neat. There are great opportunities for pics of what's left at the top and terrific views of the town and area below. Unfortunately, site markers are only listed in German. No charge to walk the site; no bathrooms on site that we could see. No food or drinks.
Castle ruins up behind our house in Hohenecken .. nice 2mile hike, worth seeing the view =) Hubby & I have been up there 2x, both times carrying the boys :P
