OK, I admit it, I'm a total transport geek and ex-aviation professional. Nevertheless, despite the fact I personally can't resist transport history, I do commend this museum. It is centrally located and easy to find. It has sections dedicated to trains, cars, motorbikes, bicycles, aircraft, and on the top floor a huge, impressive model railway lay-out.Irresistible!

We were in Dresden in outumn 2014. It is just awesome place, very interesting both to kids and grown ups. Very friendly stuff! It is allowed to touch and try many things.

the museum is spread over four floor and there are quite a lot to see .I was expecting more antique cars and motorcycles but was disappointed . They have a good section on planes and a flight simulator. Worth a visit when you have seen the other museums.

The museum was a fun experience for me, being a fan of the technology of cars, planes and basically everything else in the museum. Like another review said the museum definitely caters towards Germans. The exhibits have virtually no other languages posted, though there was an audio guide to take you through the museum. I would have given it 4 stars if I had been able to read more of the exhibit displays. If you enjoy transportation exhibits you will probably enjoy this museum. They also have a large section devoted to children, so definitely bring them! I do recommend it if you are looking for something to do for an hour or so in Dresden. Safe travels!

I'm a car, aviation, and technology fan. This place was a joy to visit. There is an entire room full of railroad cars and equipment, and a tot road/tram play area with traffic lights, etc. What fun! I was a little surprised that despite all the cars in the automobile section there were no Audis and no Trabants! How could both be absent? Remember, too, that as with Munich's Deutsches Museums, technological advances and innovated products from outside Germany are largely absent. Great location -- right on the main square. Allow at least 1/2 day with or without little ones.

Marvellous collection of all types of transport, and it's worth checking, before you visit, at what time the model railway is going to be run - it's a must see !

This museum is right in the middle of the old town and doesn't take very long, but if you are a transportation buff, especially of trains, it's worth a stop.

Great place to go with kids. Second floor is almost all dedicated to them, ships you can sail yourself, trains you can play with, aerodynamic room to learn. Good place to take your family to, because each of them will find something fascinating for themselves. One disadvantage- non German speakers will not be able to read a lot of descriptions as almost all of them are in German.

This museum highlights the important contributions made by Saxony and neighbouring parts of the Czech Republic in the field of transport. Exhibits are somewhat cramped but there is a fascinating display of unusual cars on the ground floor. This is complemented by railway locomotives, together with models of commercial vehicles, aircraft and ships. Well worth a visit!

Other than the train section, there weren't many explanations in English. None on the automobiles. Also, I was a bit appalled that despite paying for admission, I still had to pay 50 cents euro to use the ladies room. There are a few floors in the museum, no elevators that I noticed. Probably not a great place to visit if you have mobility issues. It was a hot day and there was barely any air conditioning.

I took my son here today and he almost wet himself with excitement when he got to the kids area. He was already satisfied looking at the old trains and cars but the kids area is something else. Model trains he could play with, scoot along cars and real traffic lights as well as comfy bean bags for parents or try out the real helicopter simulation. We have just moved to Dresden so I have bought a year pass so I can take him back often. He is 3.5.

Right in the historic square at Dresden, the Transport Museum is a little treasure. There are plenty of larger transport museums, but this one is of manageable size with interesting exhibits. I visited on "Museum Night," when Dresden's museums were open until 1am. It was packed with people, creating a terrific atmosphere of fun and excitement. The cars and locomotives are worth the admission price and the museum (like that in Berlin) is aimed at children for the most part, with many "hands-on" displays.Where else could you see Wanderer and Wartburg prototypes? Or an IFA or a AWE? Unimaginative names, but interesting cars.An excellent way to spend a couple of hours. The view outside from the upstairs windows is great, too.

The first floor contains early cars made and design by famous Germans including Benz and Daimler and several locomotives. Upstairs are exhibits on aerodynamics. The most amazing area is the children's play area. What clever design. Children can ride little cars and go through tunnels. There are chairs for the adults and one table set up for toddlers. it is a small museum housed in the Johanneum. Apparently they have more trains in another building but we did not go there. The building is from the 1500s with the most modern public restrooms I have ever seen.
