The picturesque Church of San Giorgio is close to Sarigo, a delightful hamlet in the hinterland of Castelveccana, north of Laveno. This Lombard Romanesque church dates back to the first half of the 12th century. In the Middle Ages, it attracted many inhabitants from the surrounding valleys who attributed miraculous healing powers to its baptismal font. The first thing that stands out even for the less attentive is the original location of the entrance on the long side and not on the short one, which was usually the case. The apse, preciously decorated and framed by hanging arches obtained from blocks of stone, indicates an influence by the masters from Como. This place is truly worth the trip to the small hamlet of Sarigo!
