forget cycling (overcrowded, children, walkers), just walk. On top nothing special to see. A tentative to attract tourism to this lake. Btw swimming is not permitted due to pollution. There are other things to do in Varese.
The hotel is a "bike hotel" they will be able to help you out with everything about your ride, sometimes they have private tour leaders available too
Our hotel provides bikes to ride the trail (Hotel Capolago) and I had a some free time so I headed out on the trail. The trail itself was very nice and lots of people using it. The only problem I had was trying to cross the traffic to reach the trail at rush hour. Other times it would not have been a problem.
Nice paved path for waking, running, biking. Can be accessed from many areas around Lake Varese. Gets quite busy on warm weekends, so near Gavirate it can be a bit dicey with pedestrians dodging bicycles. Most of the time though, a very peaceful activity.
It's actually a must do in Varese. although the whole path is not near the lake and it goes to a jungle half way but the whole was breathtakingly beautiful. it was impossible to pass and not willing to stop to take a picture every five minute. we went on a Saturday afternoon. It was not that crowded first but moving to evening many people came to walk. so it'd be better to go on weekdays or before the evening on the weekends. hope you enjoy it as much as we did :)
We were recommended this walk with our dog, but it is too crowded. Other pedestrians are not always dog-friendly.. Result
Like a sort of tradition, my family and I do the bicycle trail almost every Boxing Day!It's definitely worth it.In December it's a bit cold but as long as you keep cycling you are warm. The landscape is beautiful, so fascinating and also mysterious, when there are spots with a bit of mist over the lake and among the reeds.Living nearby, I use the trail for running as well all year, so for tourism I recommend spring months because of nature, but also because bars and ice-cream sellers are open and the weather is really nice, not cold and not hot yet.If you use the parking lots at Schiranna, check if there is the fair because it can be crowded and during those days parking is not free.
Do not exist a path for bikes, it is impossible eve to walk in same points,I don't suggest to go by bike, just by walk, but there is nothing to watch, except a dirty lake and smell of dead water, because the city don't make maintenance.
Friends lent us a bike but you can rent them too on the cycle path. its 27 km long and takes about 2 - 3 hours but it depends on how often you stop for ice cream! Only disappointment is that you aren't so close to the lake all the time but its ALL off road which is nice. Sometimes too many people to make it fun as you have to concentrate all the time - worth getting up early to beat the Sunday family walkers!
such a beautiful place to spend the day!!!!!!!!! definitely recommended in sunny days. you could also have a pic mic by the lake
Is well indicated and there are lots of places where you can rent a bike. Just be sure not to do it on a hot summer day. Lots of shadow but also quite hot spots!
Staying at Varese for the European Rowing Championships we went off in search of a lakeside path and all we could find was the cycle path (24km in length, right round the lake) which is anything but lakeside and therefore totally lacked any close views of the lake. As a cycle path/walking path through green fields and woodland it fulfills its purpose absolutely and there were certainly many people making use of it.
really very very nice, scen ic view and a interesting trip around the lake.to do every dayfrom january to december
Nice path, very well protected (from cars...) and clearly marked. There are (at least) 4 bike rentals on the way (Lido di Gavirate, Biandronno, Galliate L.do, Calcinate...) if you don't have (or don't want to carry) a bike.Useful drinking fountains are along the cycle track....
