We took the funicular from the lake Como and we went to the top of Brunate. Its price is 5,5 eur for the round trip. We decided to arrive to the lighting-house (faro) on foot. There is a small "mountain" way for the active people the other ones can arrive on the normal way that the cars take. It is a 35-40 mins walking from the funicular but must see if you are in Brunate. Visiting the lighting-house is free. Suggestion: Anytime you are there take a hat with you.
However you get to the Faro Voltiano, you will be rewarded with some of the most spectacular views not only of Como but the snow capped alps
From Como: take the funicular to Brunate, then a 30-minute uphill walk and you are on the top. We loved the stunning view!
We went up by car and walked the remaining bit up. The views from the lighthouse are breath taking and definitely worth the trip up.
Take the funicular to Brunate and then follow the signs pointing the way to the lighthouse. The walk is pretty much straight uphill and the pathway can be treacherous in places with large cobblestones that are pretty unevenly placed. Coming down is even tougher so if you are unsure of your footing, walk down the road. It just takes a few minutes longer. The walk up from Brunate takes about 30 minutes for those in good shape walking at a steady pace. Once at the top, you can pay the gentleman €1 to enter the lighthouse itself. Climb up a bit more and be prepared for some lovely views of the Como and Cernobbio end of Lake Como. I would've loved to have more time to explore some of the paths continuing on from the lighthouse. Maybe next time.
It is a nice place to hike there, you find a buffet and toilet in the near. But it was pity it was not open, so one can't go up to the tower.
I loved the view from the lighthouse, and definitely thought the walk was worth it. And for me it was a rainy day, a drizzle most of the time, so the view wasn't excellent. I can only imagine what this would be like on a clear day. I rode the Funicular from Como and it was a 30 minute walk from the station. However, that 30 minute walk was all uphill, in the rain, on cobblestone paths, so be prepared. I hear there is a bus, but I didn't see any such thing. And the walk back was easy ;)What a beautiful place Brunate is. I'll go again.
The viewing platform here is large with good solid fences and a great view of the lake. The lighthouse itself, erected in honour of Mr Volta, who invented the battery, is a bit run down and could do with a repaint.
If walking/hiking isn’t your “thing,” you can catch a ride up to the lighthouse. But if you are in the Brunate area, you should not miss the view! We walked up and back from Brunate and enjoyed every moment of the hike. When you get near the lighthouse, there is a very friendly older Italian gentleman (speaks only Italian) who will give you the key to the lighthouse for 1 Euro per person. There is a great little café in the little village where the lighthouse is located, if you are interested. There are also other hikes (with signage) from this area.
The view from the top is breathtakingly beautiful as you get the view from all angles. the funicular from Brunate was not working but there is a bus which can take you up to a certain point. it takes around half an hour to get there. from there you need to walk a bit so ensure you are wearing good walking shoes and carry some water along. give yourself at least 3-4 hours to go up and come down. I would recommend visiting if you have a few days in Como
The pedestrian path was steep and rocky. You need to wear proper footwear. I saw a local man walk along the side of the road instead. It's a longer distance to walk but it's paved. Walking along the road would probably take an equal amount of time. If you want to enter the lighthouse, there's a man at the door who asks for 1€. He didn't seem very legit. He was sitting on the floor, chatting with a few other people. One of the men that he was talking to told me that he's the "gardener or something" that collects the money and that he "doesn't think he's paid to collect money".
Take the 'funicolare' and walk thru the small village to the top of the lighthouse. the lighthouse itself is no big deal but yhe view is breathtaking, specially if you're lucky to see the sunset in a beautiful day.
It is well worth the walk to the top, just for the views. Nice peaceful place just to sit down and enjoy the scenery below.
nice walk of 30 minutes from the center of Brunate, worth every breath, amazing scenery of the Como lake.
visit by first catching the funicular from Como to Brunate and then catch the shuttle bus which just takes a few minutes. It's a steep but short hill walk up to the Lighthouse and then to walk up to get stunning views of the lake and the towns around. It's a very steep walk if you don't catch the bus.
