In this tiny hill-top village, there is a magnificent cathedral on a majestic scale, with noble Roman columns reused as the arcade in the nave. It is a most impressive building with an interesting Treasury (2euros to visit) too.

The cathedral looks lovely from the outside and the town itself ha wonderful panoramic views and arches through which the view can be seen. However being forced to pay to go into a church is not usual in Italy and is objectionable. I normally make a willing donation when I have entered as I am sure many others do. I did not go inside on principle so in fact the church lost out. There is also a square nearby with three churches, which look very interesting.

Well worth a visit. The Norman cathedral is said to be the largest in Calabria but size was not the main attraction. Light and airy with delicate columns and arches in both the main cathedral and the crypt. The town itself had other interesting churches including a small Byzantine chapel dating from the 10th century. Perched on the top of a rock surmounted by a ruined Norman castle, there are magnificent views across the plain to Locri

The cathedral is mostly interesting because of its age and unusual design. When in Gerace you have to see it if only because it is the most important building in the town.

A beautiful example of southern Italian Romanesque architecture. It is a large church which incorporates classical remains in its columns and capitals. The crypt includes a display of important possessions of the church.

To find the words to express the the feeling of walking into the cathedral in Gerace is nearly impossible. A beautiful town perched on a mountaintop with an amazing view of the landscape and sea of Southern Italy. A stroll into the cathedral takes you into a time of the past. A time of brillant craftmanship, a time when the church was the center of a town's activity. Listening to the church bells ring brings a smile to your face. Many beautiful artifacts within the cathedral that enable you to only imagine what it would have been like to have lived in such a beautiful village.

The cathedral in Gerace is among the most important buildings in southern Italy. Its profile dominates the town. The cathedral was consecrated in 1045 and is 76 metres in length and 26 metres wide. Its ground plan is a Latin cross and it rests on the foundations of an earlier building – possibly from the Basilan monastic order.It is divided into three aisles with impressive columns, which come from various Greek and Roman temples and villas which were found in the area. All the columns are different to symbolise that the cathedral and Gerace parish were the most important in the area and could unify the area and its population.Its structure is Romanesque in its simplicity and purity. However, it is easy to find the Norman traces which decorate the lines with elegance and power. The cathedral’s altars show signs of Baroque style.

molto spesso la domenica prendo la motocicletta e parto, è capitato diverse volte di andare A Gerace,un paese bellissimo e caratteristico con un panorama mozzafiato! Come lasciarsi sfuggire una visita alla cattedrale,luogo ieratico e di pace. Il costo d'ingresso é davvero esiguo. Inoltre si può visitare la cripta. La consiglio a tutti!

La più grande cattedrale di Calabria. Magnifica sia esternamente che internamente,un must assoluto per chi si trova da queste parti. Di origine normanna, ha ormai 900 anni di storia

Ci sarebbe bisogno di maggiore cura dei dettagli. Poco valorizzata sia la cripta con i suoi "tesori" sia la cattedrale. Maestosa nella sua semplicità. L'ingresso è simbolico di 2 euro. Il foglietto di cui si viene dotati seppur apprezzabile nell'intento è limitativo nelle informazioni fornite. Resta comunque un monumento da visitare.

Come ogni anno (o quasi) passo un paio di settimane a Gerace e ogni volta rimango meravigliato dalla bellezza e imponenza della cattedrale presente nel centro.GErace oltre ad essere uno dei borghi medievali piu belli del nostro paese e uno dei posti dove si possono ammirare il maggior numero di chiese presente in un piccola cittadina.Almeno una volta vale la pena passare per qualche giorno.

Si tratta di una delle cattedrali più belle d Italia.Semplice ma ben fatta.Quello che colpisce è l imponente colonnato che balza subito agli occhi come si entra che da una sensazione di imponenza e molto suggestivol altare che fanno di questa struttura un luogo magico assolutamente da visitare.

Una magnifica cattedrale che trasmette grandi emozioni e che evidenzia diversi interventi di varie epoche, arricchita da fantastici monumenti e da un imponente colonnato. Stupenda chiesa in una stupenda cittadina. Merita maggiori attenzioni!!!

Sono Anni che faccio tappa a Gerace e non smettero mai di poter ammirare tale luogo ..... la cattedrale e le chiesette sono il cuore di Gerace e insieme al castello racchiudono una pace interiore che solo chi ama questo posto puo sentire.

Passeggiare ammirando la bellissima cattedrale sembra una fiaba. Restaurata da poco è un gioiellino storico che consiglio ↑↑↑↑↑☆☆☆☆☆
