this emblematic place is gorgeous but it was under repair when we arrived, it is very near of a museum and an archeological zone.
It is next to a shopper friendly street called Corso Garibaldi. The street and area near Arco di Traiano are decorated with lights close to Christmas. Lots of people mill around shopping in the flea market near the Arco di Traiano on Saturday evening.
Given its age and the detail that is still visible it is worth the walk but only if you are in town. Benevento has generous public parking areas near downtown you can see more than the Arch. Benevento is a very pleasant town to walk around in.
Quite an impressive structure with extremely well preserved carvings of the main characters representing Traiano's era. The statues almost seem alive, they are so well crafted. During our visit (end of September 2014) the site was surrounded by a protective fence as parts of the structure is being renovated so it was not possible to get right next to the Arc. Still, an impressive snapshot of Roman history.
Very pretty, very accessible, lots of history nearby. Right near my B and B and in walking distance of the downtown and historic area.
It was going through maintenance when we visited, but it was lovely to see how an old monument gets preserved so well.
My relatives took me to Benevento for a few hours to visit this old beautiful town. We mainly walked on the main strip where there's lots of shops, caffes and then at the end of the road I saw this beautiful sculpted Arco di Traiano - magnificent to see. Glad I got to visit Benevento.
When you look at this arch it takes you right into Roman times - you can almost hear the swords clashing. It is beautifuly looked after, and the low trees that flank it provide welcome shade on hot days and a refuge from the wind and rain in the winter. Standing in front of the arch on one side you look over the hills and can imagine what it must have been like in those times, scouring the landscape for the enemy, while on the other you look towards the Corso and Benevento proper.
good history great to see a land mark still standing after all this time
Very rare item, one of the very few Roman triumphal arches left in very good condition and must be preserved.
This arch from the roman times shows on one side the works of the emperor (the roman side) and on the other side the works of the local people,
Fantastically well preserved arch at the start of the Traijan way. Stunning.
Unless you are on a quest to see all the Trajan Arches in Italy I would concentrate on Rome. This is a pretty impressive structure but, I am afraid, parking is not one of its best features. If you are in town go see it otherwise bypass it; you won't regret it for the rest of your life.
