Yep, it's a tourist trap. The walk from the main road (SS163) will take you past numerous restaurants, hotels, and gift shops. Feel free to shop and enjoy! I felt there was a good mix of Italians and tourists, but you'll notice more than a few tour buses from all over. But seriously, the views are INCREDIBLE. Put your feet in the water, and then turn around and look at the beauty that appears to be built into the side of the hills. It's fantastic!
This has to be the most beautiful place in the world. The water is blue, clean and not freezing like in Australia. The best part is the view of the hills as you lie on your sun lounge. There are many tourists but I didn't find it overcrowded. There are heaps of places to eat along the shore and we never had to wait too long to be served or for our food. Overall it's the most naturally beautiful place with gorgeous people, amazing food and the weather in summer is just perfect too!
The main beach where everything happens in Positano. The sand is dark, which was weird for us, but the place is easy to find and with food and service available.
A bit unassuming at first as you walk out on the beach with is rocky, gravely surface underfoot. Heading out to the waterline to dip your toes in the water. After looking out at the yachts and oh so blue waters, you think, eh...this is pretty nice. And then, you turn around. MY GOOD NESS! The view looking back on the town is to die for. Brick-a-brack structures ambling up the hillside looking down over the beach. It is one of those places on the planet that is absolutely breathtaking. Get here!!
We spent a lunch here after driving down the Amalfi Coast. Was a nice peaceful lunch overlooking the beach. The wining passage ways that lead you here are really cute. Beware of parking costs but I don't think this can be avoided.
when you first walk onto this town beach its not to good with its gravely black sand and pebbles. The waters nice and clean but when you turn back around and look at positano all around you like a stage sett and its church practicly on the beach you soon forget about the boring old sand.the veiw is fantastic and you reach for your camera ,its unique theres loades of sandy beaches all over the world but only one positano.
We took a half day in Positano and grabbed a couple of sun beds while enjoying the pebbly beach and incredible views of Positano behind us. Even if you are hard to please, the views of the town behind you are amazing. Just the landscape alone makes this place a must see! I wouldn't recommend much more than a day here, only because there is so much more to see along this beautiful coast line. We took a private boat all along the coast and Positano was truly awe inspiring. If you do decide to get some day beds and enjoy the beach, make sure to grab a scoop of gelato just around the corner and soak it all in.
As Positano itself an expensive crowded place this beach is no different. Parking was 25 EUR for the day, not worth it.
Although still stunningly beautiful, this beach is very expensive abc also really crowded as it's the main beach in the centre if town. It's also situated next to the main port if boats to Capri/Amalfi.Not exactly peaceful
A cheery family atmosphere on a clean pebbly beach with the vibrant sounds of Positano in the background. Take a swim here on a Sunday morning with the bells chiming from the church on the edge of the beach. Then go and see the church with the cute kids giving printed information on the wonderful history of this church and town. It is lovely here in Positano.
12.50 Euros for a chair on this main stretch of beach on Positano, but the views looking back at the city are breathtaking! Typical rocky European beach, but the Mediterranean water was wonderful.
Sun bathing, people watching, swimming, relaxing....all of these can be done on Spiaggia grande but why bother when there is a far nicer beach, less crowded and just a far better place to be is only a 10 minute walk away.Sure, its obvious to just go here as its the first thing you see when you arrive by boat (which most people do). Its 12.50 euro to hire a sun bed of you can squeeze yourself into the VERY small public area...All in all, its an OK place to lie in the sun, have a swim and enjoy the people watching but Fornillo beach is a far nicer place to be....
Nothing much to write home about here. It's a lovely beach although busier and pricier than some of the smaller beaches. Chairs and umbrellas all in good shape and there are shower facilities as well. We had a good day here.
One of the largest beaches on the Amalfi coast. Great for people watching - although it can get really overcrowded on holidays.
Great beach for lounging with one of Italy's prettiest towns surrounding you. It's worth paying for a lounger and parasol, much more comfortable that way.
