My 8 year old son was fascinated with location and architecture of the castle and the stairs uphill directly from the center city. He pretended he was the Gladiator as seen on the movie the night before. No such buildings from 6th century in Australia. :)Beautiful architecture also bow the castle.
I liked the quality exhibits and views of the city and the complete Roman mosaic bedroom floor is a treat. I would have preferred some of the descriptions to have been in English and other languages too.
Yes there is a bit of a climb, but you are rewarded with some great views. Plus the Castle is certainly worth seeing
High above the city, the castle commands amazing views beyond what one can see from downtown Trieste. an interesting museum complements the visit but the best part is probably to walk around the walls and trying to see as far as Slovenia. Also worth seeing the Cathedral nearby
gardens totally unkept collection of old weapons ok lapidary below castle new and good but only very small explanations on some dangerous pavements outside ( these nuisance uk insurance companies that pester us would have a field day here) such a shame maybe its the sign of the times in a recession!
Take the audioguided self tour from the Tourist office and you will end up here before heading back down the hill. The views are spectacular and if you have time buy a drink from the cafe and just sit and lap up the view.
If you're on a budget then I'd recommend just paying €1 to visit the outside of the castle to appreciate the views over Trieste. The €6 charge for the inside and outside ticket is only worth paying if you want to see lots of swords etc and statues with bits missing. Not my thing but it will appeal to lots of other people. Nice toilets.
We do not really like to visit churches but rather prefer to visit national parks. But this church was exceptional inside. The best thing in Trieste, in our view. Old and charming.Must see..
The view is great although the surroundings need some refurbishing. It can be combined with a visit to the Cathedral
This castle near the old cathedral offers a panaromicview of the Trieste and the local coast line. Well worth a visit while touring this most dynamic, pleasant city.Be prepared to climb up a steep staircase.
Different from many of the very ornate cathedrals and churches in Italy. Looks a lot older and original.
After visiting the Cattedrale di San Guisto one has to visit also the castle. It is really huge, you can walk around on the walls and look down to the city.Full visit is 6 EUR, walk around is only 1.
Not expensive, great views from the castle. Unfortunately the museum was closed the day we visited, but it looked fun. We especially enjoyed the melon of Trieste. A stroll from the downtown, with Roman ruins on the way.
You get a wonderful panoramic view of Trieste and the Carso plateau from the parapets of the castle. Its also next to Roman ruins and San Giusto cathedral
Castello di San Giusto is tha small castle near the centre of Trieste. It's not so interesting as a castle. But the views of Trieste from the walls and bastions are amasing! There is a little museum inside the Captain's House of castle.
