Pictures do not do this building justice. It's amazing!!Do climb to the top...the wierd feeling of going to fall over is bizzare and funny :)the steps are wide and so its not difficult to climb. once at the top, the views of Pisa below are amazing!
if you want to climb the stairs to the top I would suggest you go off season or there will be a long line.
This tower really leans! You must go up to the top, it's a bizarre experience walking up a leaning tower, and the views from the top are spectacular.
I am glad I got to see the leaning tower of Pisa at least once in my lifetime. After seeing Venice and Florence, the rest of Pisa isn't as impressive, but the tower and the Duomo are very beautiful.Be prepared for very large crowds and thousands of people taking the classic picture posing as if they are pushing the tower.Major tourist-trap food wise with some of the rudest waiters I have ever seen. Still a great day trip experience overall!
Visiting Pisa was one of the places on our bucket list while living in Italy. It is a beautiful site, worth seeing, but be prepared for a very touristy atmosphere. I do not see us returning but it was worth a one time trip.
If you are in Pisa, the tower is the main highlight. The duomo and baptistry are also interesting. It is about a 40 minute walk from the train station. Along the way is a great street of coffee shops and clothing and souvenir shops. Unfortunately many shops are closed on Sunday.
Prettier than I thought, but very touristy. The local restaurants where nice, the locals very nice and helpful. I do have to admit when later going to Rome the quality of food was better. I went to a gelato shop...the best in the world.
What a wonderful site absolutely beautiful ,well worth a visit .We spent a good hour and a half around the site ,could have done with more time ,but we had to go the coach would not wait.We will book to go up the tower next time we go .
Guelph Tower is situated on the north side of the river to the west of the city. It is a different tower than the Leaning Tower (the pictures for this place are wrong). I found a website which stated that it was supposed to be open on Fri, Sat and Sun from 3pm to 7pm but when I got there at 3pm on a Friday there was nobody there and the grills were on the door. I stayed and wandered around until 4pm then left. The area looks very run down and it doesn't look like it has been in use for some time. It was a shame as I was hoping for a nice panoramic view of the city.
This is very much one of those "you get what you expect" things. Which is not a bad thing since those kinds of attractions don't always deliver. However a little expensive (18€ for 30 minutes in the tower including a very short information about the tower), in my opinion it is worth taking the cost if you're in Pisa for the first time. The price also includes an entre fee to the cathedral, but it is not optional to pay less if you only want to visit the tower.
