In Turin - never throw out you plastic bottle, because practically every piazza has one of those nice fountains with great water and interesting ornaments.
The traditional water fountains in Torino have the head of the bull (from the name of the city) as the water spout… the water flows from the mouth of the bull… picturesque and unique to Torino….
The "torreti" are the most recoginisable symbol of this city. On my way around I met only a few but all gave me refreshing water that is why I liked them. Their appearance is connected with an old legend dated from ancient times when the taurus (the bull) died at the feet of the village after he had defeated the dragon. Nowadays the appearances of bulls/tauri can be bought on T-shirts, souvenirs and as mascots.
These little green water fountains spouting good water from a bull's mouth, are symbol of the city, situated everywhere for the benefit of the thirstyWhen satisfied you can adopt one (http://www.ilovetoret.it) as your own protected fountain!
these nice small bulls are almost everywhere in the city. they provide u fresh water so precious when u wander around the city above all in summer. great
Yeah these little cow-like fountains are almost everywhere in Turin! You don't need to visit them just when you feel thirsty go and drink some water!!
The "toretti" are the green, little fountains, characterized by a bull head, that you can find (if you look for them, they are rare!) only in Turin. Their ever-fresh, ever-flowing water is a balsam for poor people, flushed children, pigeons and dogs, in particular during the hot season. they are located, generally, in squares and parks but they are threatened by extinction and are going to be replaced with more functional fountains with water "on demand".
In the hot summer days they are like a mirage! Their cold water is so refreshing and tasty that they will be your best drink of the day :) There were people that wanted to remove them, but they were probably just ignorant politicians that did not know what's in the heart of the Torinesi. They have been criticized as a waste of water, and if they had some kind of "faucet" that allowed to keep them closed it would probably make some people happy. To me, their green bull shape, the fresh water, and their habit of "appearing" where you would not expecting them is always a nice surprise. The "turet" are in the heart of Torino, and we love them :)
Only in Turin you can find this kind of fountains!!
Oh, how wonderful it is to be thirsty and find in front of you a fountain of pure water. This bull face fountains are in different points in the city waiting for you to drink from them. Fresh cold water, very good and tasty (as tasty as water can get I mean). You can look for maps with all the locations on line and they can make your waking adventure a lot easier. Carry with you an empty bottle that you can refill and be a green turist. It is good for you, for the world and for your pocket. :)
Caratteristici e unici forniscono acqua a flusso continuo, cosa molto rara in altre citta'.Un servizio veramente utile a tutti e un'icona dell'arredamento urbano torinese.
