Actually a series of interconnected ancient churches. You would have to do a little research to fully appreciate it, but well worth a stop.
I got told this was slightly less known than the main churches etc in Bologna, and when I visited I was basically the only person in there. I felt like I had gone back in time!Interesting now on Tripadvisor to see this as the top attraction in the city! But well deserved. Magical, serene, haunting. The little family run cafe up on the pathway on the right of the square as you look at the basilica is also cute and cheap with lovely people watching potential as you look down on the square or across at the church front.
Bologna has many Basilicas to see and this one is worth a visit. Grand in size with beautiful frescos to see. A quiet sanctuary
This historical site, in the centre of Bologna town, is composed by 7 church everyone inside another, everyone wondrful and very old. Here you can taste the air of the Middle Age live!Higly recommended!
Our favorite place to visit in Bologna, interesting history and great atmosphere. Don`t miss it. the Square outside is also very nice (actually triangle shaped)
There are seven very historic churches here. Known as the "Sette Chiese". Once there was a pagan temple here. Then in 5th century, a church was built over it replicating the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. There is history in every corner of this place. Some of the walls are kept as it was. The whole place might give you a shiver down the spine if you think about all the historic events it went through!
Must see, it is like living in an Umberto Eco book. It is an enormuous Basilica. Very different from other Duomo's in Italy
Visiting Basilica Santo Stefano and you are visiting seven churches. Beautiful chapels, courtyards and also a very intersting crib made by a local artist. The piazza is also interesting and the porticoes are the most beautiful in Bologna.
My favorite sight in Bologna, and we really liked Bologna a lot. We happened to be the only ones in this Basilica when we visited - and oh, what a wonderful place to have all to yourself! The architecture, the frescos, the old churches, the chapels and the courtyard. Just meandering through this place was a treat...so quiet and mysterious - I felt like I was transported to another time.
I didnt expect this basilica to be such a lovely visit. It is purely amazing and surprising. I believe that this should be the top spot for everyone ti visit in Bologna. By the way on your way back stop and buy a bottle of lazzarus liquer made by the priests.
Seven church in a place very suggestiv, in the centre of a wonderful city like Bologna.I was stay with my girlfriend on this place and I like visit this fantastic place!!!
If you are visiting Bologna, you are alrady qualifying yourself as a smart traveller, very different from the budget tourist who thinks he has seen Italy just because he's been in Rome, Florence and Venice. But then you need to be suure that you see the real Bologna and not only "Piazza Maggiore" and the Two Towers. So turn right from the Two Towers coming from Piazza Maggiore and go straight into a magificent square (by far the nicest in Bolgona) and go for a visit of the beautiful Santo Stefano Basilica. 1000 years of history, 7 churches connected one to the other and a unique atmosphere. Don't miss it !!
.....of seven churches, Sette Chiese on a lovely, lovely piazza - my favorite in Bologna. Explore the churches and savour the different types of architecture.Relax later with a glass of wine at apertivo in the Piazza while the sun sets.
Bologna's Santo Stefano offers an unexpected and wonderful experience. The many chapels and the uniqueness of the place it very appealing. It sits at one end of a gorgeous square with converging walkways. IMO, it's even prettier at night than in the day.
you have to visit this, it was not only big, then I mean realy big, it was just Amazing to look in and walk around.
